Getting Into Your First Choice. What is it Like?

I don’t know about you but I got into my first choice today, and it is the best feeling in the world after anxiously waiting for a decision in the mail for this whole past week. What a realief. I am so happy!!! Parsons is the Harvard of Fashion Schools and I got in!!!

awesome liek! i know someone who went to fashion school in france and she totally loved it.

getting into penn was a relief more than anything.

Getting into Columbia was really uplifting and I am truly ecstatic to be going. I have 3 hats, a sweater, key chain, scarf and a few t-shirts. Getting into your first choice school is a) a relief and b) really exciting. Congrats Liek and Pandas. I live in LA too. Where do you both go to school?

liek, did you do an interview? i looked at their website, and parson's has a very thorough application process. i couldn't find their selectivity, though. Do you know that stat?

I got the mail that Monday in mid-December. I opened up the mail box and saw that big folded over envelope, and my heart stopped. Immediately, I assumed it was some other dumb college that I had no interest in, but sent spam to all unsuspecting high school students constantly. It couldn't be the letter I was waiting for, that one would be small and thin. I thought all of this in a split second while I thrust my hand into the mailbox as fast as I could. I took out all of the mail and let it fall to the ground. All I cared to see was the return address for this big white envelope. I didn't get a chance to see it, though, because the front of the envelope had in big yellow letters: MIT. My heart jumped so I jumped too. Still incredulous, I ripped open the envelope and took out a big maroon folder. I yanked the leaves apart and looked for a letter. I saw it and focused on the first words. One of them was "congratulations". I jumped some more. Up and down. I didn't cry. I'm a guy for pete's sake, lol. But man was I happy. I jumped for like five minutes, then called everyone I could think of.

ha. oh yeah. early action is awesome. man what a relief! imagine waiting until APRIL for a decision. oh god. if i had gotten DEFERRED. shudder

I found out over the phone at 1am, while staying in a hotel. I jumped up and down in the corridor for ten minutes, then called my parents and left six messages (since it was also 1am there).

yes, getting into your early decision school (washu st. louis) is the awesomest feeling in the world. our winter breaks must have all been awesome!!!!!

Kent State has a better fashion school.

I was sooooo happy to get into Amherst early. The only problem is it happened right before finals so I didnt have much modivation, but I managed to get through it. Now Im ready to get second semester over as quickly as possible so I can attend!

yeap getting into a school you've wanted to go to practically all your life...is probably the best thing that has happened to me so far in my 17 years of life. i dont really think that i've ever been so happy for anything else. i started yelling when i saw the acceptance email and jumped up adn down around my house for i dont know how long and then i went to my parents to tell them the news. everyone else jumped and hugged me. it was great. it probably feels like winning the lottery to alot of other people, but of course, i'd rather get into jhu than to win the lottery...yes...i DO want to go to hopkins THAT bad.

Hikkifan, Parsons acceptance rate is in the low 40's, however I heard somewhere that for fall 2004, the acceptance rate was 20%(Doubt It), SAT average is like around 1090 or something in the low 1000's and the average gpa is like a 3.0 or something. However they don't base admissions on your grades or SAT's, you can have a 4.0 1600 and still wont get in.

If you don't have a fantabulous portfolio of drawings from real life, and when they mean real life, they mean you better had spent hours drawing what your eye sees and not what your imagination sees, additionally to that 12-20 piece portfolio you have to submit a home exam which is killer, in the home exam you have to draw a self portrait from looking at yourself from the mirror, make a collage of an interior space, write a max of 500 words describing an everyday object, and in 6 steps, visually represent a daily process like brushing your teeth(no photography), so it was definetly a toughy for me, and I am so greatful for being accepted.

Joev, Kent State is no where near Parsons. Kent State wishes it was Parsons.

Parsons is one of the top four fashion schools in the world, emphasis is placed on the word "world". The others are Otis, FIT, and St Martins. Parsons has turned out with famous alumni such as, The guys from Proenza Schouler, The Boys of Badgley Mishka, Donna Karen, Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, and the list goes on and on. And I got in!

I told my teachers today, and they were so much more excited than me, they were thrilled, one even jumped up and down and screamed. It was funny.

It's like finding a penny, but better.

congrats liek and everyone else who also got accepted to their first choice.

my cornell acceptance felt like a combo btween feelings of emerging from a mountain of boulders, having multiple orgams, and eating orange sherbet for the first time. words just do not do justice to the freedom from the onus of hs stress.

the only thing that would suck for me is if i can't go to my first choice because of my financial aid. are you guys going for sure regardless of aid received?

Yup - well they sent fin aid package along with acceptance letter.

Getting into Rochester gave me such a high... It was a sudden feeling of euphoria.

Ha. MIT better give me some free money. Of course, they will - about 67% paid, I think. But if they gave me nothing, I would probably get the loans and work my butt off before, during, and after. Cause I REALLY want to go.

liek - that's crazy. you must be really freaking good. i'm going to talk to the people in the cosmetology dept. at our high school. see what they think about it.

Getting acceptance from Williams was one of the happiest moment of my life. The financial aid form that gave me 35K grant per year made me even happier =).

Hikkifan--Great story! You didn't cry??? Geez...I almost cried just reading your post ( ha ha) Congrats to you !
