Getting Off the Wait List

I got wait listed for the upcoming year and was wondering how large the wait list size is and the likelihood of getting accepted from it for biochemistry and premed.

According to the stats available at College Board, getting an offer from NU’s waitlist is unlikely:

  • 4,248 admitted
  • 2,614 offered a place on the WL
  • 1,452 accepted place on WL
  • 43 accepted from the WL

Of course, every year is a new year so you never know.

Google the Common Data Set and the college name. You can see that info for each year. But you can’t tell how things will turn out this year.

Should we even submit a letter of continued interest to Northwestern? They say “While we do not encourage the submission of additional materials, we do welcome any new academic information.” Does that mean just sending report cards?

@Adaephon Sending your report card probably won’t help in all honesty. Most likely everyone on the wait list will get straight A’s or near straight A’s their second semester which they’ll probably assume and they already know your courses. I’m sure sending a letter of intent saying you’ll go if you are admitted off the wait list can’t hurt, I’m just not sure how much it helps. I feel like new academic information that could make a difference is if since January you’ve participated in any new research or academic opportunities not mentioned in your application or if you’ve since taken subject tests or what not.

That’s just my opinion tho, but it’s probably worth a shot I suppose because sending stuff in can only help or keep your chances the same, not hurt them.
