Getting Out of Honors

Hello, I need help. I want to get out of honors social studies, but so many people have already dropped out and the person in control is saying no to some of the people who want to get out of honor social studies. I’m about to write my letter to tell him why I should be taken out of honors social studies, and I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to write this letter.

Which social studies class? Is it needed for graduation? Do you want to drop out or drop down to a lower level? Are you normally in all honors classes? Why do you want to leave the class?

Letter writing isn’t something done here but rather students would be encouraged by guidance to talk to the teacher to help figure out what is happening and how a student can approve. Perhaps with a low enough average a student could switch from honors to college prep.

That said to write a letter what are your reasons for wanting to leave the class. Make sure you word everything politely and stay away from blaming the teacher.

It seems a little unreasonable to refuse to let kids drop the class just because a lot of other kids beat them to it. Now if the class level below honors is full already, it is reasonable to expect the late drops to go to a study hall (or other class with seats available), and make up the social studies
requirement in the summer or the next school year. If that’s a satisfactory compromise to you, bring that up to the decision makers.

I agree that dropping should be a last resort, and one should first talk to the teacher and guidance counselor.

There is no good way to write a letter in this case. The good way is to have a face-to-face conversation with the GC.

If there is continued resistance, have your parents contact the school. I can’t imagine a school forcing a student to take a class for which the student does not feel able to succeed.

I would start by speaking with your teacher and guidance counselor.

Also try to ramp up your studying:
