Getting over Accounting exam anxiety

I have taken both Financial and Managerial Accounting and ended up getting C's in both classes. I understood it and put in a lot more study time in those classes than my others, yet I still could not do the tests. I just drew a huge blank when I'd get the test in front of me. I go into it with the concepts dug deep into what is left of my brain, take the test and choke, and walk out realizing I blew it completely after thinking about some of my answers. I'm posting in this section instead of college life because it's the only subject where I had the problem this past year. I am retaking Financial Accounting in the Fall and I'd really like some advice on how to get over the anxiety in that one class from people who may have had similar experiences with that.

Is there such thing as studying a subject like that too much, because I was dedicating whole weekends to it at times and still screwed up?

You didn’t study enough.

When you study the problems, actually redo them without the answer in front of you. In other words, if this was a test question, could you answer it. Test yourself.

If you cannot redo the HW problems on you own with out referring to notes, you WILL NOT be able to do so on the exam. So study it.

What did you screw up on? Can you be more specific on your weaknesses? What were your study habits?

If there is practice exams, do them. Do the problems without looking at the book. Do as many practice problems as you can independently, and you should be set.

I think one important thing to always remember is that doing badly on practice exam is OK, they won’t affect your grade.
