getting rescinded from UC Berkeley

Hey my first semester grades were GREAT, but the second semester has been horrible for me.

my courseload and projected grades are :
AP environmental science 1 A or B
AP environmental science 2 A or B
AP econ/civics A or B
AP chemistry D or C
AP art history A or B
AP biology C

my main concern is chem. I might get a D. I spoke with the counselor at CAL and she said that she might make an exception because of my course load and if I show that I have taken full advantage of my opportunities. What does this mean?

I can raise it to a C, but I might not

MY MAIN question is how often do students get rescinded? I heard only 20 students got rescinded from Berkeley last year. Can it happen just because I was a few percent away from a C-

It honestly feels a bit weird that I can have my entire 4 years of hard work go down the drain because I was a few percentage points away from a C-.

Are there any exceptions for hard course loads or if i give any other reasons? I heard that they ask you to write a letter explaining your bad grades after they see the final transcript.

What should I do besides work hard and try to raise my grades from here on out.

bump............

They will contact if you accumulate a handful of Cs, Ds, or Fs.....but if you explain your situation to them, I am sure they will understand. I am basing this off my friend's experience, who got called after he got a C in Biology. But he was not rescinded.

C- counts as a C. You need 3.0 uw.

yea i need a 3.0 uw which i hope will look like this:

A
A
B
B
C
C (or D)

but one of those C's might be a D so I might get a 2.83 unweighted... i was wondering how much they would care if i was just a few percentage points away from a 3.0 uw and from me getting into college. Can I just explain my grades? I heard only 20 kids were rescinded last year from CAL and those were because they lied on their applications and had multiple D's and F's

I would beg/plead/bribe :), ok just kidding, or explain to the teacher(the one that you might get a D) that you really need a C- to go to UCB because you've already turned in your SIR to UCB. Ask the teacher if there is anything you can do to get any extra credit to bring the D to a C-. If you ask nicely some teacher might help you, assume you have not ****ed his/her off somehow in the past. Good luck!

Yes, ask the teacher for help. If teacher refuses, find some reason to petition the grade to get a few extra points. Get your parents to come in for a conference with your and the teacher - sometimes it helps if the teacher feels the parents are supportive of your responsibility to do better work. You need to get a C- in order to be absolutely safe. Failing that, if you get a D, call Cal admissions and see if they will accept it or if they want you to repeat the semester over the summer at a local CC. If you offer to complete the work, I do not think you will have any problems. They may waive it completely. Good luck.

well I've heard of people get into cal with D+ in calc BC and AP physics, which are generally harder courses ( in my case AP CHEM... which shouldnt be that hard, but I HATE the subject). I just felt the 3.0 unweighted system gives no advantage to students taking a rigorous courseload.

If I get a D, generally what is the case? I heard I have to submit a letter explaining my grades

my teacher doesn't round at all even for seniors.

This is a good cautionary tale for juniors picking their senior classes. Don't sign up for AP classes in subjects you HATE. It's harder to do well in them.

The 3.0 unweighted criteria comes in after they have accepted you. If you didn't take the rigorous courseload in the first place they probably wouldn't have accepted you. But now that you're in, they want to ensure you actually are doing well in the rigorous classes.

are you sure its uw, because on ucsb condition of admission it stated

Archieve at leaset a 3.0 GPA (weighted) in your senior year UC 'a-g' coursework.

yes i totally agree... DONT PICK CLASSES you hate!

thats my only excuse for doing bad and the fact that at berkeley i wont eb takign any science/math classes at all... So I think i can do well at CAL its just a matter of convincing them in a letter

and ucsb is weighted... same with davis, irvine and san diego

ucla is 3.0 unweighted for the entire year and berkeley is 3.0 unweighted for each semester

ohh ok, thanks for the clarification

im just wondering, since i wanna go to berkeley
what was your GPA and stuff
do you live in cali?
