Getting sick at school is one of the worst experiences. Freshmen year I got a bleeding ulcer and the flu, and my mom ended up flying out because I was in the hospital overnight and she panicked. Now I have a fever and I'm vomiting and I've never felt so homesick... I just want my mommy's special toast and tea and her pulling my hair back.

Anyone else have experiences with sickness/homesickness issues?

i got sick at school this last year. i remember i wasn't feeling well and i was at my best friends house and didnt feel like walking home, so i spent the night on the couch, and the next day i was so sick i didn't feel like leaving. so i stayed there all day in my pj's and my best friend cooked me lunch and dinner. (he makes good toast too) i kind of slept all day and in the evening we just kind of chilled and watched movies. my friend got all my notes for me in class that day. i don't remmeber if i went home that night or the next day. so i'd say maybe if you tried to do something with friends you wouldn't be so homesick.

I'm feeling pretty sick and homesick right now. Luckily my friends are all in the same boat, since it seems like most of the campus is sick right now. We all just hang out watching movies and stuff in someone's room. We all feel miserable, and that's really all we can do when we're not in classes. I'm going home this weekend though, so I do have that to look forward too. I really miss my mom's cooking though; dining hall food is crummy when you're sick. There's no comfort food.

Getting sick is probably one of the only things that frightens me about going off to college and living alone. In being sick at home you have this cozy, warm feeling in your bed with you parents "mothering' you with constant attention, food and medicine.. you wont get that at college i believe lol.

Plus.. I'm an only child lol, so I dont even know how I'll deal with it.

ps. here's something gross. So you share bathrooms in college right? well, what if you get something like diarriah? ok, i know its disgusting to talk about but it can happen to the best of us! THAT freaks me out too ... like, everyone will know it was you cuz they'll hear you or smell it in the bathroom then laugh and think you're all gross lol

Luckily I have a private bathroom this year...

It is definitely gross, but let's face it-- everyone has diarrhea at some point. If people laugh, they're just stupid. If you don't want people to know it's you, wear white socks or some sort of footwear that is really basic. If you come out of the stall to wash your hands and someone is there, either smile and pretend it didnt' happen, or make yourself look ridiculously sick, and they'll sympathize.

Also, as monarchsfan has pointed out, if one person gets sick with a virus, many people get sick with the same thing.

PS- I'm finally feeling better from my stomach bug...

like i said, i usually just would go to a friends house and stay there.. nothing worse than being alone when youre sick. i would definately tell your friend your sick before you decide to hang out with them, maybe they don't want to hang out with a sick person, haha. i wasn't really a fan of staying home at my apartment when i was sick, because my roommates were kind of loud and the apartment was always crowded with people having people over and stuff, so i'd just go to my best friends house and stay there.

There are bathrooms all over campus. My dorm has some locking bathrooms with the "occupied" sign on the ground floor. Make sure you know where all the private bathrooms are in case you ever have a problem.
