Getting to Columbia from Westchester

What would be the best way to get to Columbia if you get on a Metro-North train southbound into the city. Would you have to take it all the way to Penn Station in order to get on the 1? Is there a better way to take the train/subway system?

what westchester city you from? Comin from white plains by Car, take the hutchinson to the major deegan (int 87) to the FDR drive. May be a bit on the traffic side though. Via train, metro north hooks up with a lot of trains in the city. You can probably take a met north to Mount Vernon or the Bronx and then take them to manhattan. You can probably reach cu from there, but if not get to port authority and get a train from there. Personally i recommend car though.

i usually get off at harlem 125th and then take the m60 bus to columbia. just make sure you dont get on the one that goes to laguardia, which i did once and ended up having to get off somewhere in queens and transfer to the right bus.

Or take it to Grand Central and hop one the 1 there.

Where's the 1 at Grand Central???? Amazing that I've never noticed it there ;)

lol...i feel like an idiot now

um, shuttle to times square (very simple), then hop on 1
