My son and I will be visiting campus for the April 7th event. We are from OOS–the Pacific Northwest. I am wondering how do most OOS students get to Columbus’s airport to fly home for breaks? I will be renting a car for travel between Athens and Columbus, but obviously my son won’t be able to do that. Do kids just carpool? Does the university have a shuttle? I’ve heard that some universities do, so I thought I’d check? Our oldest son went OOS, but his university is in a major city on the East Coast, so transportation to the airport isn’t an issue. We are very excited about visiting Ohio U, but after making the travel arrangements, I am a bit nervous. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
There is a shuttle which runs from campus to the Columbus airport and back. I think it is $35 if you go at one of the scheduled times. It’s more if you needed a shuttle at a time they don’t normally run. You can find information on the OU website by clicking on Life at Ohio/Campus Life/Transportation. Good luck and enjoy the tour.
@lvvcsf is correct: the shuttle is called the “GO BUS” and my son uses it to get back and forth to the airport when coming home to us (we live on the East Coast). We have also used the private GO BUS on off times, just at @lvvcsf mentioned above, which can run up to $100 each way if you are the only passenger, but far less if you can get 1-2 more students to go in with you.
Of note, neither Uber, not Lyft go to Athens yet.
Hope you enjoy your visit to OU–my son couldn’t imagine himself anywhere else! (Can’t believe his freshman year will be over in just 32 days!).

Thanks for the information! I am hoping that he enjoys our visit. He’s narrowed his decision down to one of our state universities or Ohio U. Online both schools are similar in size of school, size of city, non-urban campus setting, etc, but Ohio U clearly has a better Business College, which is the area of study he wants to pursue (finance). I am hoping it has the “feel” he’s wanting once he gets on campus. He’s visited our local university, so at least he’ll make an informed decision once this spring break trip is over.
