I also received that email about early this week - any ideas for when that’ll be? Will they email us before or do we just have to keep checking the portal?
For EA, they sent an email on M 1/23 informing applicants that decisions would be posted on W 2/1.
Did your portal change at all?
Not that I’ve noticed - honestly can’t remember if all this event registration stuff was here before though
Decisions were released now.
Waitlisted. International Student.
Any idea on what percentage of applicants get merit scholarships?
Looking at their Common Data Set from 2021-22 (HS c/o 2021), they report that of 623 entering freshmen, 490/623 (79%) get non-need based scholarships. Of course, that doesn’t tell you what percentage of accepted students get scholarships, but it gives you an idea that they do give out a lot of non-need based merit.
What are the must see Admissions Events? Daughter admitted! Abraham Lincoln Scholars + scholarship we are West Coast. Congratulations to everyone!
Congrats to your daughter! We are West Coast also (SoCal) - my son is also an Abraham Lincoln scholar – we may try to visit in April on one of the accepted students days, but we are waiting for everything to shake out by end of March before making plans.
Waiting for everything to shake out sums it up nicely! Congrats and good luck on all the rest!
We know two freshman from our town (Santa Barbara) who are quite happy at Gettysburg. That’s all the exposure I have to this college. Where do you get your insights?
One of my middle son’s best friends is a junior at Gettysburg, so my son checked it out (along with some other schools) when he was in PA visiting grandparents in the summer of 2021. More recently, said Gbg student was hanging at our house watching the football playoffs over Xmas & he was answering a lot of my son’s questions & he really likes it a lot. I think this connection may hold a lot of sway with my son – he isn’t sure he wants to go to the same college his older brother goes to (assuming he can get in), but he may go where he at least has a ‘big brother’ type mentor available. He/we want to learn more about the Lincoln Scholars Program – that is what is setting Gbg apart from the other schools right now.
I am looking forward to finding out more about the Lincoln Scholars program too. We are looking at several U’s with honors programs. There seems to be a common thread amongst them so far. Having a known friendly face at Gbg would be nice .
Gettysburg is amazing. They did not give my D enough $ to make it possible for her to accept, but we visited there three times before I realized it was not financially viable. Great conservatory if music is your thing. Amazing people. Small class sizes, good food. The first year dorms felt tiny but I guess that’s maybe normal for college.
Sent you a PM. My son is mostly looking at other SLACs - although he’s gotten in to a few bigger schools already (U Miami & Creighton) - but Gbg is his top choice as of now. Feel free to PM & we can see if we end up going to Gbg at the same time for a visit.
My son committed to Gettysburg/Sunderman on Monday. Very pleased! Already picking first-year seminars. I think it will be an excellent fit for him, but there’s a bit of game theory involved with choosing seminars when your classmates will also be your hallmates!
Congratulations to your son! I am a bit lost about housing for the class of 2027. My son is class of 2026 and housing was assigned by first year seminar (his roommate was not in his seminar, but people in his dorm apparently were). But I am hearing on the parent chat (Facebook) that Class of 2027 students can opt to choose their own roommate this year. In any case, my son found his people pretty quickly even though they were not in his first year seminar. They were not even in his dorm. By the way, he loves Gettysburg!
My impression is that they are still mostly doing it by seminar, though they have said students can choose their own roommate. We live over five hours away, so he doesn’t know anyone he would room with!
My son has listed what I consider promising seminars for both good classes and good hallmates; he listed the Dante one first figuring that way he’d meet the people who like to read for pleasure. Having had some problems fitting into my own dorm’s first-year students when I was one(and hence becoming friendly with mostly older students), perhaps I’m overly sensitive to this.
I’m so glad he loves Gettysburg! Where did he end up finding his people? I know mine will find some of them through Sunderman, as he’s a Music Performance student.
