im currently a first year at gburg, id be glad to answer any questions!

Hi,

Just curious as to whether any of your peers were initially deferred and then accepted? My son attends a prestigious prep school and his GPA is about a 3.5. He opted not to offer his SAT scores but he had a GREAT interview.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

My son was accepted and received his acceptance letter on Saturday. I know of someone who was waitlisted. Does anyone know if rejection letters also were sent out?

Also, I am curious as to the scholarship amounts. If people do not want to post the exact amounts, which is perhaps understandable, can ranges be posted? Are they conditional?

The highest merit offer is the Lincoln at 25,000 a year.

Gettysburg’s merit aid is described here: [Gettysburg College - Merit Scholarships](Academic Merit Scholarships - Gettysburg.edu)

Excited to be accepted, visited last year and LOVED it.
stats:

unw gpa 3.97/weighted 4.6
SAT: 2250
3 APs scored 5, taking 4 this year

gillyy… what is your field of study and how are you liking it?

Merit scholarships appear to be up this year. Recovering stock market is helping for sure!

Accepted student’s [Get Acquainted Day](http://www.gettysburg.edu/accepted/get_acquainted_day/) is a month away (April 21). Great day for accepted students who’ve decided to attend and those still making a decision.

susanfyr-- I am a history major and absolutely loving it! I have found that all of my professors really care and I have made connections with them no matter what department there in, be it history, english, philosophy, etc. They truly want you to succeed and really care about your problems. I have talked to my professors about everything ranging from personal matters to academics.

Im currently searching for a double major but havent quite decided on one yet. Gettysburg College is a great place to discover a major, however, as the Gettysburg Curriculum ([Gettysburg College - The Gettysburg Curriculum](http://www.gettysburg.edu/academics/gettysburg_curriculum/)) encourages a student to explore other areas. Humanists take science classes and scientists explore other areas of the liberal arts in order to broaden their academic horizons.

Congrats to all!
My son is class of 2014 in his second year.
I love Gettysburg and know we made the right decision.
Hes a heath science major going for his BS and minor in business. He plays Rugby and has a job on campus.
If you have the chance I highly suggest Get Acquainted Day. Thats when we deposited and became confident in our decision.
I have a daughter whos a senior in HS next year and will be applying to Gettysburg as well.
I know how hard this process is but I just wanted to give my input. I have a comfort to know my son is at a wonderful place.
Feel free to message me any questions.

Hi GCmom415, thanks for the offer! Our D has been accepted. She originally wanted to go to an urban campus and we are very seriously considering GC. Can you comment on the physical location of the college, what the kids do on weekends, whether they feel isolated, how often they take the train to DC, Balt, NYC? Those are really our only concerns, literally everyone who posts anywhere about GC, seems to love it. Thanks!

My son did not want a urban location. We are from NY and live 30 mins from the city. So he can do that on his breaks ect. I like the fact they can walk to town. They also use the free bus service to go Walmart, movies and the outlets. There is easy access to NYC, Balt and DC with Amtrack from Harrisburg. Hes taken the train many times back home into Penn Station. The school has a shuttle you can book to take you to Harrisburg for that.
Especially first year when they cant have a car that comes in handy. Now he has a car on campus.
As I said he works 3 days at the gym so he keeps busy and I set up a PNC bank account for him which is the ATM on campus and thats his money to spend which is nice.
There are events on campus. Its what you make of it. There are GRAB trips as well which you can see on the school website. It not an URBAN setting like going to NYU but this is a campus setting which you dont have in NYC. Its personal choice.
Hes met some nice friends and as a boy they do seem to play alot of video games LOL. He also has his Rugby which practice is everyday and games on Saturdays. He does study alot as well thank god.
This year he had a double with his own bathroom and air conditioning and next year he has an apartment with a kitchen and living room. I did like the fact that Gettysburg owns the housing you can have an apartment or a dorm like setting its her choice after freshman year. Its included in your financial package and you never have to worry about finding off campus housing and a landlord. I didnt want that as many other schools we looked at had that option for upperclassmen.
I know the Greek life is very strong on campus. My son did not join a Frat but had many team members who have. You dont have to.Many of the kids have alot of fun with it. She does not have to think of that until sophmore year. They can not pledge as a freshman. Gives her time to think about it
As a parent I love visiting. When you go try to stay within the town. Not on York road. The Travelodge, 1863 Inn of Gettysburg which you can take your pet to both or The Gettysburg Hotel is usually where I stay. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cricket, I think I just sent you a private email (I may have messed up). I called your D a he. Sorry.

GCMom, curious as to why you advise not staying on York Rd. That’s the only place I’ve stayed, at a couple of different hotels. Granted, there are a couple I’d avoid, but all in all, not bad for what I’ve paid. Is there some advantage to staying on some other road? I would love to stay at the Gettysburg Hotel on the square sometime, just for the location. I just accidently found out, while searching for something else, that Gettysburg College actually OWNS the hotel. I had no idea. They just changed management companies, so I don’t think it will have Best Western in its name anymore.

I just think being near the battlefield is nice. You can park at your hotel and walk to restaurants, gift shops, ghost tours.

Accepted with a Presidential Merit Award (very happy &excited about this)!

SAT: 1410 / 1600 or 2080 / 2400
GPA: 4.2
SAT II’s: all over 700
AP’s: A mix of 4 &5’s
Class Rank: 17 / 525
EC’s: Many (Varsity athlete, NHS, Language Honor Society, Hospital Volunteer, Leadership roles in multiple clubs, volunteer with disabled children)

Going to visit the school in a few weeks. This will be our second visit. All things are pointing to Gettysburg being “the one”!
