Gettysburg or Denison

Gettysburg with some merit and aid or Denison with $15k p/yr more in merit and aid. Neither would require major debt. Undecided on career path.

Would love some opinions from the fine folks here.

So Gettysburg for $56K - some merit aid or Denison for $55K - the same merit AND $15K additional? Obviously Denison. Both will get you ready for a career. Denison costs less and I think it might be a better school in general.

Thanks Erin’s Dad. It’s a combination of merit aid and financial aid, so the benefit may vary from year to year, but in the initial year you are correct.

I’ve heard from some people that Gettysburg has the edge and from others that Denison has the edge. As a reference, I checked the College Board’s SAT numbers for both (not that that is what a decision should hinge on) and the numbers seem a little skewed. Both schools are SAT optional so it might be that only high scorers submitted their scores.

I would take the time and revisit both schools. Sit in the unions and have a coffee, talk to the students, staff, employees at both schools. Soak in the atmosphere and by the end of the two visits you will know. One will feel right. One will feel like the correct fit. You will be able to picture yourself there and fitting in with the people you see around you. Avoid the admissions people, their job is to sell the school, you have already been sold, now you just need to make the final decision. Best of luck!

I am only familiar with Gettysburg, but with the cost differential, I have to agree with Erin’s Dad. Denison is the clear choice.

All great advice – thank you!

Please let us know what you decide.

My daughter is a junior at Denison. It’s been a great experience so far. Courses have been rigorous. This semester she is studying abroad in Chile. Denison scholarships cannot be used for travel abroad, so keep that in mind. Granville is a tiny town, but Columbus is not far. I’m not familiar with Gettysburg, so I can’t say anything, one way or another.
Good luck!
