We live in California and my son will attend UA this fall. He has received the Presidential Scholarship and has GI Bill benefits to use because of his dad’s military service. The person we spoke to at the VA office said once he uses his GI Bill benefits he becomes classified as an in-state student. Does anyone know how this affects the amount of his merit scholarship? I’m asking because I believe the in-state scholarship covers the full tuition while the out-of-state has a small amount that is not covered.
Is the military member currently active duty or retired within the past 3 years–if so then you are eligible for in-state tuition. I do believe it is for you to decide and not automatic?
Thanks for your reply. He’s at Bama Bound now and it looks like he will be classified as in-state with the in-state scholarship offer.
