Giant Can Menorah Lighting to kick off Chanukah at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — On Tuesday Dec. 4, the Jewish community will begin to celebrate Chanukah and light up lives with the kindling of a giant 12-foot canned food Menorah! The festivities will get underway at 3 p.m. at Turlington Plaza at the University of Florida . Many dignitaries and local officials will be on hand to join in the Chanukah celebration and deliver holiday greetings. The Menorah lighting will be preceded by the kindling of the flame of unity, peace and freedom honoring our U.S. armed forces and our great country. The program will also feature Chanukah music, traditional hot latkes, tasty jelly doughnuts, Dreidels and Chanukah kits. This program will reveal unprecedented Jewish pride and proud religious freedom, which we are free to express as citizens in this great country.

This is why I love UF, and Florida as a whole. (Ok, maybe South Florida in particular.) Having one of the largest Jewish populations in the country on a college campus brings a lot of diversity and equality. I'd definitely attend!

Boca=win :D

thats why it's called JewF

Meh, Boca is the town of the elderly. LOL.

Ft. Lauderdale=Win!

lol @ ChamilitaryMayne: JewF? XD That's a new one for me.

On another note, it's nice to see some Jewish pride! First night of Chanukah and little bro gets a GI Jew Action Figure complete with glasses, hook nose, star of David, and a little bagel. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this thing

I'm just curious, do Jewish people prefer Hanukkah or Chanukah? or it doesn't matter?

^^^ doesnt matter

dvm, not really. My grandma lives in Delray, which is much worse. My aunt, uncle and cousins live in Boca.

I think Sarasota county wins for greatest % of old people, but I love and miss it anyway. =)
