So my sleep schedule is all messed up now that we're on break, and I'm bored so I thought I would share some of my Christmas and Chanukah (I'm half and half, so I get the best of both worlds) gifts with you.

A UF laptop case (and a brand new laptop!), 2 UF t-shirts, a pair of UF earrings, UF notepads, and even a pair of UF socks. My boyfriend's family got me a UF blanket embroidered with my initials! (His dad owns an embroidery company whose main client is FSU. Ironic? A bit.)

Goodness gracious, now I realllly hope I get in. My wardrobe will take a major hit if I don't. :-)
Although lately I've been feeling alright/even pretty confident about decisions. However, I know that once February comes around, I'll beseriously worried. Anyone else feelin' the same way?

It's...interesting. Both of my parents went to FSU, but they've learned to embrace my gator-ness. They said if the way I rebelled against my parents was consisted of going to UF, they would be quite thankful.

A ton of kids from my school end up going to FSU, but I think a bunch of them also apply to UF. This year, almost everyone in my classes applied to UF. FSU is just too familiar to me, I go there often for music rehearsals, concerts, research projects, etc. I want to go to college somewhere new. (Got accepted to FSU honors program w/ $9600 scholarship...still didn't think twice about going to UF if I'm accepted.)

hahahahaha. I'm half and half, too and EVERYONE in both sides of my family who has gone to college in the US went to UF for undergrad, including my dad, all of my aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. I currently have 9 first and second cousins at UF and all I got for my 17th birthday (before I was accepted) and Christmukkah (shortly after I was accepted ED) was Gator gear. no pressure. lol.

I think sometimes my parents resent my gator-ness. One night of Chanukah, my little brother got this really nice digital camera, and I got 1 pair of gator socks. Haha.

Blueskymom--I only applied to the schools I could afford...UF, FSU, and Georgia Tech. I was accepted to FSU and Georgia Tech, and I'm hoping for a 100% personal acceptance rate. :-)

You say you are "half and half". Does that mean you are half Jewish? In which case, is Judaism a race? I've never been clear on this. I know Jews assert that according to Jewish law only if your mother is Jewish are you truly a Jew. So, if a Jewish female marries a non-Jewish male and they produce a female, the child is a Jew. So, let's say this pattern occurs uninteruppted in the same bloodline 1,000,000 more times, then 1,000,00th child is still a Jew. Very interesting logic.

Or do you mean you are pre-programmed 50% with Jewish religious beliefs and 50% with Christian religious beliefs? In which case in which part of ROM are they stored?

lol. My dad is Jewish and my mom is Christian, so according to Orthodox Jews, I'm not Jewish unless I go through an Orthodox conversion (which takes years). However, according to many reform Jews, I am. Religiously, I'm agnostic, but culturally, I identify with Judaism for the most part because I spend more time with my dad's side of the family and grew up singing in Jewish music festivals, going to a Jewish camp, and went to quite a few of my family members' brises, Jewish weddings and funerals , bar/bat mitzvahs, etc. However, I also grew up celebrating X-mas and Easter (not in a religious sense, but I got presents and once believed in Santa and the Easter bunny). So, I consider myself both.

Hey! That sounds exacly like me...but my mom's Jewish. But still, I don't have a personal religious preference. My mom even organizes an easter egg hunt every year for me and my brother, and does a lot for Christmas. My brother worked at a Jewish camp over the summer. :-)

Mine too! My mom is Jewish and my dad is Christian. I'm not sure what type though. He's not involved with the church anymore but never converted after marriage. Heck, he even comes to synagogue for the high holidays and Shabbat and wears kippot. I mostly have more personal relationships with relatives in my mom's family. Whether the reasons are because of religion I'm not sure. But I do go to Christmas and Easter parties with my dad's family. The sad part is that Easter always falls during passover, so I can never eat the o so tasty bread.

My family is split but in a weird way. My dad and three of my cousins (mom's siblings' children) went to UF. My grandpa (dad's father) and two of my uncles (dad's brother and cousin) both went to UM. My grandpa played on the football team there too in the 50s so we have a very strong connection/legacy there. Even though my dad graduated from UF, he roots for the canes whenever they play UF in anything. (Canes still have bragging rights from the last football game years ago BTW. hahaha) It just gets ugly when our cousins are with us. Quoting a line from the candle lighting ceremony at my bar mitzvah:

Cousin ____ is a Gator, but we love her anyway.

Actually, if I got into both UM and UF I would probably go to Florida. It's just when it comes to athletics I'm always by the side of UM, even when we lose embarrassingly in the last Orange Bowl game ever.

FLBoy, I don't know how you can sarcastically say "Very interesting logic" (obviously criticizing Judaism) when religion itself is very illogical.
