gift for a teacher!!!

Well ppl,
many of you might find this pretty odd... but i was really in a fix

I actually wanted to give my English teacher a gift (sth to complement the Teacher's day card that still lies on my desk waiting for me to find it a partener),
CAN you plz help me select a a gift ( May be a book/novel, since i don't read many so I have no idea as to which one to choose )

I just forgot to mention that I'm a gap yr student, so she does not teaches me any longer)

Anxiously waithing for replies!!!

Pranjal

tell us about your teacher

amm... what all should i mention ?

She was a wonderfull teacher, always encouraging me to take parts in Debates, declamations ... you see she actually wanted to give up my fear for public speaking, which i only realised later. She just taught me for two years.

whenever i needed her she was always available, on phone and in personal...

i'm on yahoo right now:
cdhplove@yahoo.co.in

may be we could share better thoughts there

or may be you would not want to ....
in that case I appologise

plz help

okay, well...
obviously this teacher cares a lot about you (I am similarly looking for a present for a teacher who did similar things for me, actually)

anyway, think back about anything particular that was something she mentioned to you or some experience that you 2 shared.
good. then get her a present relating to that. This way, the present will reflect how hard you thought about it and how much it was bought specifically with her in mind

oh, and also: since she helped you get over your fear of public speaking, maybe it should be something concerning that... although I don't know what that would be

well she was very fond of novels( which ones i don't know )
Have you read a good one recently

btw how is your preparation for the Oct- SAT (phy and maths 2 i suppose)

Well, sweetie, an English Teacher would appreciate a nice journal with a fancy pen. You know, a nice leather journal and maybe one of those new disposable fountain pens.

No matter what you choose, I am sure it will be nice. It is lovely that you are showing kindness to a Teacher:)

The very nicest gift that you could give her would be a heartfelt letter detailing how she has made a difference in your life. As a former professor, I can say that those were the kind of gifts from students that I treasured. What keeps teachers teaching is being able to make a difference in their students' lives. Nothing probably makes teachers happier than a sincere, written thank you that gives specifics about how a teacher expanded a student's mind or helped the student in other ways.

You could give the teacher the letter with something like a potted plant or a bouquet of flowers.

I'd say, give her a novel that you have read that has made a difference in your life or has done something for you. For me, that would be "To Kill a Mockingbird". They might have read it, but accompany it with a letter such as ^^.

.-_-.

I gave my English teacher a card at the end of this year thanking him for basically changing my life, along with a book (Bob Dylan and Philosophy), because I knew it'd be perfect for him.

Think of something you know your teacher loves and get her a book on the subject (probably non-fiction). You're bound to find something if you wander through Barnes and Noble's for a while. :)

pranjal:
(wait... how do you know im taking math2 and phys sats in oct? !)

yes, but what kind of novels does she like? that's like wanting to take someone out to eat and detailing that they like "food" what have you seen her reading? what has she reccomended to you?

Truly speaking I haven't the slightest idea what kind of novels she likes... suggest me one under each category./.

The idea of a letter was absolutely fabulous sir, may be that could help me exemplify how did she changed my life... since i'm more that 500miles away from her (my dad has actually been transfered from the place of my high school) the potted plant would keep me afresh in her mind

I'm sure going to do this but keep your ideas flowing for others as well

Thank thee

idamayer ...

I had actually read abt your SAT subject tests in one of your posts

Northstarmom has a very good point here. It DOES mean alot. My W who has taught for 29 years of elementary at the same school, had a note slipped under her door the other day from a student she had 20 years ago. He remembered her and thanked her for what she taught him and was glad to see she was still teaching. It was energizing to say the least, when her "batteries" were a bit low. A note is always nice and always remembered.

Maybe add a starbucks gift card or homemade cookies are always appreicated.

yeah!!!

sorry for writing sir in my previous post,,,, it should have been ma'am

I like Opie's suggestion:)

oh, cool

okay, I personally like
metafiction:
anything haruki murakami is amazing
OH!! get her life of pi! it is so good
kurt vonnegut is popular but very good
historical (meta)fiction:

I'll think of more for you later

I have no suggestions lol. I've never even thought of getting stuff for teachers..most of my teachers and I share a mutual dislike for one another.
but alot of the suggestions here are really good. :)
