Teacher gifts????

What do you give a teacher for an end of the year present and how much do people usually spend???

don't spend too much. some teachers might think you're trying to 'buy' your grades and you might get the opposite result.

Not if you give it to them after grades are finalized.

:)

chocolate. mmmmm

Teachers virtually unanimously say that their best gift is when a student writes a heartfelt note saying how the teacher's instruction and mentoring made a difference in their life. The best gift is the time and effort that a student takes to write and send such a note.

i just finished picking up some gifts for 2 teachers that wrote me rec letters. i wont hav to worry bout buying my grades cuz one is my counselor and another one is a teacher from last yr.

but i spent around 50 bucks for both of them at barnes and nobles (had two $25 gift cards) and i dont feel like i overspent, although that box of godiva chocolate for $25 is outrageously priced. but they probably helped me win 1000s in scholarships so it is the least i could do.

Buy something like a cup or something that they won't consume in a day, but can keep for years.

Always go with a card as well...

:)

I have a friend who went out and picked flowers from a tree/garden... way random... but wtvr.

That reminds me that my chemistry teacher received a gift from a student almost 20 years ago that she still uses. Apparently, this chemistry student was also taking a ceramics class, so s/he found the chemical structure for caffeine and etched it onto an Erlenmeyer-flask-looking coffee mug. That mug goes wherever my teacher goes!

i would bake something...cookies maybe?

what is this random deal -- only like the tip top brown nosers at my school give their teachers actual gifts, i mean, come on. I feel like the teachers that I really loved having were the only ones that I would like to give gifts, and those gifts would be a letter thanking them for being a great teacher, because that's what they really meant to me, not just a lousy box of chocolates or a mug.

I was only thinking about giving gifts to the two teachers that are retiring and the one who wrote me a great rec letter.
Would it be okay if I just gave my teachers a card?

Definitely. As Northstarmom said, teachers seem to love it best when they get sincere, thoughtful notes from their students.

hey is it too late to send your teacher a card/a gift now? (last day of sch : June 4th) yea i was soo busy over final exams and moving out i didnt have time to do anything even tho i had the thankyou cards...

and should i send it to school? or wait till september?

one more thing:

is the give-your-teacher-a-gift a senior tradition??

^ i guess that depends on each school

I did it for all the teachers that wrote me recs, and a few that I really liked. I gave them a box of Ferraro Rocher's and a thank you card with a specialized note that sometimes had like inside jokes (yes, I have inside jokes with some teachers) or other memories. It felt good to do that.

freeflyer, No I don't think it is too late to send the cards if you explain why you didn't give it to them sooner. But you'll need to figure out where to send the cards since sending them to the school probably won't work in the summer. Maybe the school will have the teacher's home addresses.

We have given books- like Strange American History Facts to the History teacher, Uncle John's Bathroom Reader is actually a big hit, we gave the teacher that works with the garden program the book about Orchids, and murder, for the teacher that does the musicals and opera, a book on Opera terms...they were all very cheap books (you now, border discounts), but were specail for that teacher

a good idea is to get your whole class together (or whoever can contribute) and each give about $5-10 and really give ur teacher something nice (only if u like them of course)
