Girl to Guy ratio, class of 2014

oh
if i was remember correctly, last year’s data showed men’s and women’s admit (within the data that showed how many ED or regulars)
I don’t know where the data is now.

But if you find it, you can probably subtract the number of ED accepts from the number attending for each gender, and then divide that with the number of regular acceptees for the yield at the regular pool (cuz i think the yield rate they showed included ED??)

hoho~ I know. I am one of the two actually. So you work in the admission office? I say, Mudd’s admission office is THE most responsive&efficient among all the schools I know. :)

no she “asked” the admission office (or maybe she really is working but still asked them) for the contacts

good to know that the admission office is so responsive~

“if i was remember correctly, last year’s data showed men’s and women’s admit (within the data that showed how many ED or regulars)

are you referring to this: http://www.hmc.edu/files/institutionalresearch/CDS%202009-10/CDS_2009-10_C.pdf</a> ?

Waaait, I got two replies from a girl going to Wellesley and a girl going to Mudd. I don’t think I got a reply from you? If your name is Dawn, that is.

whaaaat!! Weird!! I DID reply as soon as I got that email! a page linked to a survey isn’t it??
Nope, my English name is Dawn but the official name isn’t-the name sounds much too boyish so I take the name “Dawn” :)

Thanks Blackroses. The info for last year almost gives me what I need.
I find that

a total of 447 men were admitted
a total of 304 women were admitted.

133 of the men enrolled
74 of the women enrolled

I also found that 48 students were admitted early.

All I need to know now is how many of those 48 students admitted early
were women.

At least that is for last year and I would also like to know the same for this year.

Thanks again

I had a quick look over your other posts Blackroses. You are a great source of info! You also gave us for this year

312 male students admitted 95 accepted
325 female students admitted 101 accepted

59 students admitted early

So all we need for this year is the number of early students admitted who are women.

This will not quite be a fair comparison with last year because for last year we have the
info about students who actually came but for this year we only have the info for those that
accepted and may later decide not to come. I don’t think this will change the info very much.
Thanks again

Twocollege,

We do have the info of who actually came so far.

101 girls, 95 guys. That’s the whole 51% deal. Look through this thread. They might take 1-2 people off the wait list, and a few people who enrolled may decide not to come, but those are the official numbers of people who enrolled.

Hi Blackroses

I am not actually interested in knowing the total number coming next year.
As you pointed out I do know that number.
I want to know the number of males who were admitted early decision and the
number of females who were admitted early decision. I do know that the sum of those is 59.
Thanks!

Does anyone know of the number of males and females that applied this year? I’m curious what the admit rates are for each gender.

twocollege: don’t know the gender breakdown of the ED applicants. I couldn’t find that information provided anywhere.

fairlights: The breakdown is the first post of this thread.

Are there any current Mudd students who know the breakdown by gender of the early admit students?
Blackroses, perhaps you have some idea from facebook about how many early students are female. Given the makeup of the class this coming year I am guessing that a majority
of the early admits were also female but that is obviously only a guess.

@twocollege, why not just [Contact the Office of Admission](http://www.hmc.edu/admission1/contactadmission.html) and ask them?

Offices of Admissions do not usually give out data that is not available on the
common data set. I was just hoping that someone would know because Harvey Mudd is small enough that such info may be known to students. I also thought that early admit
students might have been able to guess based on the number of early admitted students who were on facebook.

@twocollege:
I am just wondering, why are you so keen on girl/boy ratio? It doesn’t matter if you are a boy or a girl; as long as you get a decent GPA and good recommendations, you will get into some amazing graduate school! :p

I am not really interested in the girl/boy ratio or the ratio of admits to applicants. Such things no longer matter to me. I am however interested in the decisions that people make when given choices. This is why I want to look at the yields of regular admitted students as these students have choices. I find it interesting to know whether there is much of a difference between the male and female students in this regard.

Out of nearly 200 kids, there is only 1 African American. That’s kinda surprising to me.

Anyway I’m happy to be a part of the class, especially as a white male with the decreasing acceptance rate.

hmmm
that’s rather surprising.

I don’t believe that every current grade at Mudd has as many as one African-American student. Sad? Yes. Surprising? No.
