Girls Who Code 2020

@blackpanther888 can you give us a little more insight on the final projects. What did the girls mostly create, an app or a website?

@yotamzuko idk about other programs, but for us, we ate in the cafeteria at the company and we were given I think an $8 limit a day, so with extra money aside from the meal, we would buy desserts or fries/tater tots

@scarlettreddy, I think about half of the groups made an app and the other group made a website. Again, I can only speak on behalf of the program I attended but we were put into groups of 4 after filling out our interests and what we want to make for the final project. Our group ended up making a website that helped high school students find scholarships, but other students did their projects on photography or traveling or to help the environment.

@blackpanther888 did you have any homework?

@Yotamzuko, you didn’t have homework, but some of us wanted to continue working at home, during the session, you learn how to make a website through javascript and HTML, and as a result, a lot of us continued to work on these projects when we got home. But you are not required to do anything outside of the classroom.

I just got waitlisted! Did anyone get in for the LA GWC program? I really hope that they don’t cancel it this year…

I got waitlisted. Congratulations though!

Did anyone get rejected? Or is everyone either accepted or waitlisted?

Has anyone heard whether or not their location will be online?

I found the answer “Due to the impacts of COVID-19, Girls Who Code has pivoted our Summer Immersion Program to become a virtual 2-week opportunity for 10th-12th-grade girls in place of our traditional in-person 7-week program.”

yep mine’s online as well

Hopefully, we still get to come in contact with the other girls and have some fun.

Did anyone get off the waitlist?

Hi! I just recently filled out the interest form for the Virtual GWC SIP. For those who applied when it was made virtual due to Covid-19, have you gotten a response yet? And how long did it take?

@LemonCake678 I did! I submitted mine early April (?) I think? Either that or mid April lol. but I ended up getting off the wait list just now!

Did anyone get into the virtual program for Hoboken?

Hey, asking for my younger sibling.

What is the significance and level of involvement of the company that this year’s virtual Girls Who Code summer program session is paired up with? Like are there guest speakers from that company or are the projects the students work on for the company? My sister got “Walmart” so not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Thanks!

Did anyone apply to Kode with Klossy?

@thelittleswimmer “Girls will have the opportunity to hear more about their classroom sponsor’s employees and their career paths. Other engagements might include virtual speaking panels, virtual office tours, or cybersecurity workshops. Each classroom will look different, which adds to the diversity of our programming. All girls will be invited to larger Girls Who Code virtual events with special guest appearances!”

Do you guys think Kode with Klossy would be better than Girls Who Code? Should I be regretting not applying to Kode With Klossy?
