Your gpa is low. I'd say, look at a few other schools before the death part.

In at Columbia...guaranteed!

just pump your SATs up a little bit....

As for Princeton: Sorry, you can't get in :(

Volunteer a lot this summer- Columbia apparently likes people who volunteer. If you can, try to bring up your SAT I score. Write really good essays. You'll have a better chance.
Pick a few other schools. Since Princeton and Columbia are both Ivies, they are very hard to get into. Don't get too upset if you don't get in.
Good luck.

Remember something very important, there is no guarantee for you to be accepted, but there is NO guarantee for you to be rejected. Your GPA seems low, but it's relative to your rank, which is great, about average for the schools you're looking at. You need to raise your SAT scores at least 30 points for each 720 or below section.

Guys.... I made a HUGE MISTAKE

MY GPA IS 5.7025 OUT OF 6.33

Sorry.

You may have to accept death. Your GPA is decent but your SATs are a little low. Granted, these schools aren't huge reaches, but don't expect to be a shoe-in either.

I think the fact that you're the first in your family will help you a lot. I think you have a decent shot at Princeton and Columbia, but both schools are sooo competitive that you never know. It could go either way for you, but def apply...

Certainly no shoe-in but your chances for columbia aren't below average either. Consider raising your SAT score to 2200 or above.

what awards have you won in your extracurriculars?

It's unlikely you'll get into either Princeton or Columbia. Your SAT M+V are below the median at Princeton and just at the median at Columbia. You ECs are good. Ditto your GPA. But both are just average for kids applying to Princeton or Columbia...And kids who are just average in those application pools have about a 10% chance of being accepted. You might argue that your class rank gives you a boost and will get you in. I'd say probably not or not much. If your were the Val or Sal in your class, I'd say maybe - that would really improve your chances - but kids who are in the top 5%, but not the Val or Sal, have, at best, only about a 20% chance of being accepted at most Ivies.

I'd say you have to take a real good look at your matches and safeties. Oh, and skip the death part. There's no future in it.

By the way, considering you said you were involved in ECs in 12th grade, I'm assuming that you are in 12th grade and that you applied to P and C. Is this correct?

No for both.

Princeton and Columbia are EXTREMELY competitive.

I'd give you a decent shot. It all depends on your essay now and other non-statiscal references on your application.

I got into Yale with stats that are remarkably similar, same SAT, same Rank, similar bunch of EC's.

Ferny, I'm not trying to sound rude, but are you URM?

Since this guy is Bengali and has decent stats, but not spectacular, I don't think he has much of a chance.

Yes, I'm URM.
However, th at's not the only thing. I know peopel currently at Columbia with similar stats and they are not URM.

You need to stop worrying about stats. If you're a top percentile, it comes down to how much that person can contribute to your school.

All college confidential does is shake the confidence of kids even more. I don't think Iw ould have applied to Yale if I had seen this website before my app.

If he writes a great essay, has good interviews, and can improve, like everybody else, then he has a chance.

decent shot at both schools
