Given this schedule, will it be feasible to self-study APUSH?

Sophomore. ECs include 5-6 clubs, Student government, generic weekend volunteering, internship for a few hours a week., so nothing huge or disproportionately time-consuming.

Schedule:
AP Macro
AP Calc AB
Chem GT
AP Music Theory
English 10 GT
AP Gov
Latin II Honors

I also really want to self study APUSH, wanting nothing less than a 5. An 800 on the corresponding subject test is also ideal.

Obviously it’s technical possible, but would the CC community advise against the US History self-study?

If your school offers APUSH, you would be much better served from every angle taking it as a class. If not this year, then next year. If your school does not offer an AP version, self study when you take the non-AP version to fill in the blanks.

Can it be done? Yes. However, exam results by freshman and sophomores on AP History tests have traditionally not been strong.

NOT a good idea! APUSH can wait until your Jr year.

I would not recommend it.
I took APUSH freshman year, didn’t learn anything in the class and self-studied (kind of), took the test, and did well. I was very happy with my results. But if you are dead-set on getting a 5/800, your chances of being disappointed with your self-studying results is very high. Thus, I would suggest taking the class (if it is offered).
APUSH is very reading heavy, but also requires a lot deliberation; which is hard to do by yourself.
Best of luck, either way.

I think you should definitely wait until next year and make it a priority class… many people will say it’s a fairly difficult class and would take a ton of your own time to self-study and do well on. Plus, it usually looks better to colleges to see you take the class… offers more experience with the subject, I suppose. Best of luck on your sophomore year, your schedule seems packed. I’m sure a smart kid like you can pull it off, though! Don’t forget to take some time for yourself and don’t get too stressed out. (:
