This may seem like a wierd question but I am curious to what everyone thinks.
Right now I wear glasses (I wore contacts for a couple of years but then switched back to glasses). Sometimes I think that wearing glasses could possibly inhibit my ability to be seen as being versatile, which could limit casting, etc. My headshot is of me with glasses. I will most likely get new headshots done to have throughout college (I was accepted to Northwestern ED so I didn't get new ones for the audition process) and I was wondering if I should switch back to wearing contacts.
Any advice would help a lot!

Both or no glasses is my vote.
Actually, we know a freshman @ NW who has been cast in 6 or 7 shows this year. He just (this school year) started wearing glasses. Will ask him and get back to you asap.

You will need to switch back to contacts, even if it's only for when you're acting. Actors cannot wear glasses onstage, generally speaking. As to whether having glasses on in your headshots will affect your casting opportunities? I'm not sure. I suppose if you made it clear that you wear contacts onstage, it shouldn't make a difference.

I wear glasses for my auditions, should I put on my apps. that I wear my contacts for shows and stuff??

Defy - I really don't think it's a huge issue - if they want you, and the glasses are a problem, they would ask if you ever go with contacts. On the other hand - if you have contacts you wear "for shows and stuff" is there some reason you wouldn't wear them for auditions?

In my opinion - the headshot may be a slightly different issue -- unless they are a defining part of your look (and way stylish!), I think I would opt for headshots without.

I would suggest wearing contacts to auditions, unless you can see well enough without glasses. I am blind without glasses or contacts, so when I was performing I always wore contacts, unless the role called for me to wear glasses. I have friends who see well enough to perform without wearing their glasses or contacts. Afew of my friends have also gotton lasik surgery, and have been please with the result.

Congrats on your acceptance to Northwestern!

Well.. part of the reason I did not wear my glasses was that my eye is just now healing from a corneal ulcer(sp)... and it's very painful to wear contacts, so I really can't. But in the near future my eyes will be back to normal.

Contacts or without glasses. Don't expect directors to be able to see past the glasses to see what roles you can play that don't require them. You have to create the illusion. Don't expect them to be able to do it.

As for the headshot, I have my basic shot on the front and six shots on the back, all in character (cowboy, businessman, wacked out, cabbie/blue collar, dad, academic with glasses). That's very useful for on-camera work, though a bit less so for stage work. Still, it allows directors, at a glance, to get a sense for physical range.
