I want to major in MT and auditions are coming up. I’ve been able to wear my glasses in all of the productions I’ve been in, but I know that’s not always the case. I don’t have contacts and if I have to get them for a production that’s fine, but do I need contacts for auditions? (Singing/Dancing/Acting)
I would say this will vary from school to school. Your best bet will be to call each school you are applying to to find out. It also depends on whether or not there will be dancing involved in your auditions.
My answer as a glasses wearing person who doesn’t wear contacts is unequivocally YES. If you have corrected vision and need glasses to see, then WEAR THEM. I probably can’t speak to wearing them in a dance call because I imagine you would need some way to sure they don’t fall off if you are bustin’ some serious moves. Also maybe try the MT majors forum where more than a few people probably have experience about glasses and dance calls.
Someone asked this in the MT forum earlier this year, @daja2016 :

I don’t think there is anything wrong with wearing glasses for a college audition but I would highly recommend that you start wearing, and get used to wearing, contacts. You will need to eventually so you might as well look into getting them now.
This question also relies heavily on what you want to present to each school. Glasses say a lot about a person, especially specific styles. My son has worn glasses since the second grade and they are very much a part of who he is; however, he doesn’t have glasses in his headshot and therefore wears contacts to audition. He highly suggests that you always bring a pair of glasses to photo sessions so that you walk away with both glasses and glasses-free headshots.
