Hi. My d will be at MIT this summer staying on campus. She plans to do most of her own cooking since she must have a strict gluten-free diet. However, there will be times when she'll probably need or want to eat out. Does anyone know of any safe places to dine gluten-free on or near the MIT campus? She's extremely sensitive to cross-contamination. She's also on a fairly small budget, so places on the inexpensive side would be appreciated - if this is even possible in Boston. Thanks for any tips.

I ate gluten free for my first year and a half here. I didn’t have to be worried about cross-contamination, so my life was a lot easier than your daughter’s.

You can get very good food in Central Square or online through Foodler. Large-sized entres for about $10 plus delivery means you can usually get food for one for several days for $25. Shaw’s also has a bunch of easy-to-make and pre-prepared stuff, including a gluten-free section. Specifically, there’s very good gluten-free cereal, which can make a cheap and fast meal.

Here’s what you get searching “gluten free” on Foodler for the area around Random Hall: https://www.foodler.com/foodSearch.do;jsessionid=C1F88C58FB52EF02E3085E752B3010D1?search=gluten+free&n=true&orderBy=rating&byCuisine=true&show=delivery&searchType=a&aId=112893591&radius=3
and that’s just the stuff that’s specifically named gluten free.

Thanks, lidusha! I’ll let her know about that service. Very interesting.
