Hey, so I'm a Pakistani Female but I don't know if I'm allowed to apply for GMS because here are the requirements:

Reducing financial barriers for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students with high academic and leadership promise who have significant financial need;

I'm Pakistani...meaning I'm asian...can I still apply?

It says “Asian Pacific Islander”…NOT Asian. I don’t believe Pakistan is considered an Asian Island.

Perhaps there is someone on this forum who can answer this question for you…or perhaps the Gates folks have a “help” place on their website or a phone number.

It’s always nice to be able to say, “Yes, that’ll work.” to someone on this forum. A nice change up from the usual “No, you can’t put $200000 in tuition fees on your credit card” or “You probably won’t get in-state tuition by planting a tree in Iowa”.

OP, when you state you are Pakistani, do you mean that you are an American citizen whose ancestry is Pakistani or do you mean you are a citizen of Pakistan living in the United States? The Gates Millenium Scholarships are for American citizens.

On other threads, the OP asks about where to fax her “permanent resident card” so apparently she is permanent resident but not a citizen. Does the Gates scholarship get awarded to permanent residents?
