Who do you know has gotten GMS?

I'm trying to figure out if I should apply.

Stats:
Asian female
3.81 UW/4.47 W
ACT-34, SAT-2260
In-depth involvement with extracurriculars, including leadership experience and experience with writing and receiving grants
Income: $50k/yr, 2 dependents

I'm kind of hesitant about putting in the time for this, since I've got two more essays to write and a statistics final to study for. My GPA isn't perfect, and my being Asian is definitely going to hurt.

Anyhow, who do you know has gotten GMS? What are they really looking for?

What is GMS?

Do you have 2 dependents or does your family have 2 dependents?

Gates Millenium Scholarship. At this point, I don’t think I’ll be doing it. If you’ve got kids not yet in college, definitely check it out when he/she is a senior. It covers any expenses that aren’t included in the college’s financial aid package, including travel and personal expenditures.

Being Asian will NOT hurt, GMS is specifically for AA, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American. I’m pretty sure they devide up the 1000 spots equally between the 4 catagories.

My D is a Gates Scholar, and your GPA/stats are right in line for the scholarship. You might want to make time to apply, it is definitely worth it.

You really should!! I’m Native American and my GPA was 3.5. It’s an AMAZING scholarship and worth the time if you get it! :)
