Chick-Fil-A Voted Out By Elon University Students, Booted From Other Campuses In North Carolina

From the standpoint of a prospective student, I think this is absolutely stupid, and I will tell you why.

1) Dan Cathy can donate his money wherever he wishes and may believe in whatever causes he wants to. This doesn’t make his company anti-gay, nor does it mean that homosexuals will be treated any differently as customers or employees.
2) This “controversy” is months old and the action by the Student Government is relatively late.
3) Dan Cathy already announced that he was no longer donating to the controversial groups that caused this to become such an issue.

What kind of country do we live in when people must fear expressing their views because of public perception? How is it right to say that because a company’s owner has certain views, our politicians have the right to declare that company is not welcome in their jurisdiction? By doing that, not only do you go against everything America stands for, but you destroy paying jobs and anger customers.

FYI: my daughter tells me that there is an active counter-movement against the SGA’s decision to boot Chick-fil-A. Not everyone on campus feels the same - they just want their chicken:)

SGA president vetoed vote and council then backed the veto. close vote. Came down to freedom of choice for each to vote with pocket book. Seems like campus handled so far in a thoughtful open manor.

Thoughtful and open is correct.
