I am an African american male and i am attending a Dual enrollment highschool/CC

I will have around 30 credits after this semester, and i want to major Computer science. Here is where the dilemna comes into play My HS gpa is a 3.1 UW and a 4.0 W gpa which is pretty good, but my CC gpa is around 3.7 UW which is way better that is with around a years work. Im trying to think would it be better to go to CC one more year transfer as a sophmore or a junior and go to a better college or just try to get into any college i can now? Please help me if you can.

What schools are you looking at? I’m in a similar situation (although my grades are roughly equal in HS and CC) and I’ve found that for admission rates, it’s generally harder to be admitted as a transfer student.

The exception: California CC to UC/CSU. Possibly other state CC to their state colleges, but I’m not familiar outside of CA. So if you’re in California and are interested in any UC/CSU that may work out well. They generally have lower stats for the same school for transfer vs freshman. You could also TAG into some schools. However note that:
- You generally cannot be admitted for an undeclared major
- You may not be able to double major or major and minor (depends on school I think?)

It’s also much easier to transfer at junior level for all colleges so you may spend a while at the CC to fulfill all requirements.

So I guess my questions are: 1. What state are you in? 2. Where are you interested in attending?

I am in NC, and i am interseted in attending UNC- CH, WF, DUKE( probly not), NC state, and maybe some other OOS schools if i can.

Okay…I unfortunately have no experience with CC outside of CA. I’d recommend looking and comparing transfer vs freshman admissions:
- Stats (admission rate, average GPA, etc.)
- Scholarships / FA (if you need them, I’ve heard it’s very difficult to get scholarships as a transfer student)
- Restrictions (like in UCs not being able to enter undeclared or double major, and whether they apply to you)

Also, many people have told me that I’ll be missing the “college experience” by not entering as a freshman. If you want that it should be something to consider.
Oh, and are you okay with staying at your CC for a while more if you need more credit hours or take some classes?

Definitely look on the webistes for these schools. Some schools will accept only a few dual enrollment credits, and start you as a new freshman. Then, to instead be considered as a transfer student, you need to complete 2 years of CC.

So they may not going to look at the 3.7 unless it’s been for two years.

However, your weighted GPA is very good and if your test scores match that, why not apply to your top 2 schools and see?

Well it is my second year of CC now. I took CC classes junior year, and am taking some this year to so that what i am confused about.

“complete 2 years” means about 48 credit hours. Four full-time semesters.
