transfer question (UC or CC)

okay, so im a soon to be college freshman. The best college and the college that im enrolled in right now is UCI. But I want to go to USC or a better UC college. I met with a USC counselor and he gave me a community college schedule to take, which completely contradicts what the CC wants you to do, so I am able to transfer in one year if I receive around a 3.8-4.0. So basically if I dont get into USC, I am screwed because I did not take any of the core GE's to transfer into another college and will have to spend another year at the CC (Basically repeating a grade or cramming two years into one). But if I stay at UCI, I think it will be a little to difficult to get A's to transfer to USC and UC to UC transfer is hard enough (plus the quarter system makes it confusing for USC). So, would you play it safe and stick with UCI, or gamble with a CC (which is basically all or nothing)

I think you may find more knowledgeable posters on the UC Transfer sub-forum, so I have posted this question there.

I assume you applied to USC/a better UC during frosh admissions... so maybe you should analyze why you might have gotten rejected the first time around. Keep in mind that for transfer situations, they still look at your high school record (particularly if you plan on making the switch after your first year). Even with a 3.8 GPA at your CC it might end up being a wash. I'd say... if you couldn't imagine being anywhere else and know that USC or UCB or UCLA or w/e is your absolute dream school... go with the CC and risk it. If you are content with UCI and are just trying to increase your bragging rights... stick with UCI and attempt to transfer out (who knows, you may end up liking it).

i actually got a 4.0 in HS, but I think that I didnt take enough AP's (only calc). but I heard that colleges wont look at your HS record if you take more than 30 units?

Some colleges won't... but the majority of colleges (all the ones I applied to, at least) did. After 30-45 units, however, the importance of your high school career is trumped by what you've been doing in college the past year or year and a half. In otherwords, if you plan on applying to transfer as an upcoming sophomore, your HS record is incredibly important still, while if you apply as an upcoming junior, it's not quite that important.

I personally would go with UCI, do your best there, and apply to transfer if you still feel up to it when the time comes.
