theoretically, on a molecular level, I am having this conversation face to face with all of u. All of it just connects ne way. The kinetic molecular theory is the ultimate source of this knowledge.

Please don't bring Descartes into this.

alright...he was a weird philosopher anyways...he had no idea what he was talking about... :D

what if the Matrix was real
it's not

how do you know your names? because someone told you that was what your name was. Why? Who knows. We wont ever know. What we do know, is that all matter is the same. It is all a flowing river of energy, therefore it is all equal.

kinetic molecular theory

Gotta stop with the theories

No, I actually find that Descartes was surprisingly logical. He's just annoying, though.

Do you believe in the scientific theory of evolution?

That quote was taken from the first post in this thread. Just in case some of you forgot.

YOU sir, need to educate yourself. That was a racist/predjudice comment and you should apologise.

Calm down people, seriously. Would it make it better if I told you that I myself am a Muslim? Because I am. Stop telling me that I'm being "racist" or "prejudice" or "ignorant".

The Muslims were, in their golden age, one of the most advanced civilizations in history and made many contributions to modern math and science.

Then they stagnated. Today, they are a disunited bunch of 1 billion+ around the world. Most middle eastern Muslims are some of the most stubborn and uneducated people you will ever meet. This is one of the reasons the modern culture in many Muslim countries breeds hate and terrorists. Many Muslims argue with one another over trivial differences (in beliefs) because they're not educated enough realize how trivial those differences are.

If you are of mideast descent and your parents either immigrated or you are attending a university outside the mideast, this probably doesn't include you, as you (and your family) probably don't fall in that group. There certainly are American and immigrant muslims that do still fit those characteristics, but they are in the minority.

Political correctness has gotten way out of hand.

i have to say, the fact that this thread is lending itself to a serious back-and-forth is exceptionally depressing

well, if you want to get technical, every thought is a theory. So everyone is a philospher. So no one is wrong, but every individual's belief is ultimately correct since it is generated by matter in a realistic state of existance that no one can deny

really rocker? I didn't really find him too logical. I felt he was just confused with his own ideas and some how strung up his thoughts in a semi logical way that seemed to make sense.

Gold Shadow, being Muslim does NOT mean you are allowed to say such prejudicial thingies.

GoldShadow.....your view is still flawed. That is not true. I do not quite see why you are so angry w/ Islam considering the fact that you yourself is a muslim.

and just fyi, middle eastern muslims represent like 8-20% of muslim population. Just to remind you that.

every thought is a theory

If you want to go that far...THEORIES can be proven, and those are the thoughts people wholeheartedly believe in....

ok... hopefully everyone realized i was joking a smidge on some of those comments............:)

I do...after our PMs....doesn't hurt to go along though ;)

Honestly I just thought you had gone of the deep end :D

hahah..... everyone needs to go check out THE 47 SOCIETY

how do i close this thread

By definition, faith is the opposite of rationality.
if that is the case, then you all shouldn't make any plans for the future... the notion of a goal implies that there will be a future, but you have no idea whether or not you'll be alive for the next second, let alone the next five or ten years. it's not very rational to plan ahead, apparently (unless, of course, you have faith that there'll be a next second or a tomorrow, in which case you can make as many plans as you'd like). sucks to your ass-mar, ambitious people :p

you can't...and I think people still wanna provide input; not me in particular.

That's a horrible example. I can reasonably assume that I will be living in 10-15 years through inductive logic:

Observation 1: Every day in the past 16 years of my life, I have been alive.
Observation 2: I am alive today
Observation 3: There is nothing to suggest, with any substantial probability, that I will not be alive tomorrow.
Therefore, I can predict, with near absolute certainty, that I will be alive tomorrow.

Observation 1: I am a human
Observation 2: Humans either die of artificial causes, or natural causes.
Observation 3: Modern day humans of good health can survive up to 100 years before dying of natural causes.

Conclusions
1. It is reasonable to assume that I will not die of natural causes within the next 10-15 years.
2. I may die of artificial causes within the next 10-15 years, but statistics show that the likelihood of this happening is low.
3. Therefore, it is reasonable to make plans 10-15 years from now.

Of course, people don't think like this every day, but it's to point out how absurd it is to say that we need "faith" to believe that we will exist 10-15 years from now.

the world used to be flat...then it decided to be round. Science is perfect.
Science used to think the world was flat. Then, science found new evidence that the world was round, so science adjusted its THEORY (not fact) to account for this discovery. Is science perfect? No. Did anyone ever say that science was perfect? No. Science is humble enough to admit that it is wrong, but it makes an honest attempt to discover the truth behind our universe. I cannot say the same for religion.

I really do not see how you just put religion besides science and comparing them as if you have to choose one or the other...or rather like: one is better than the other in this and this way. It's totally BS (no offense).

"Therefore, I can predict, with near absolute certainty, that I will be alive tomorrow."
just one word: ROFL!

You may want to think of being an astrologist.
