I'm surprised this hasn't erupted into the other "God" threads...

Yes, I believe in God...I can understand why others don't though.

Yes, I believe in God...I can understand why others don't though.

You're reading way too much into this. My views aren't affecting anyone, it is just the way I feel and think.

What I meant, word for word was that god gave us the ability to question, think, and challenge so that we could expand our knowledge, but still realize that he did create us all. What are we going to find? That god doesn't exist? That will never happen. It is all about believing, and yes I do pity people that don't believe because although they may be happy and fine with their life, they think that they will die and go rot in the ground and that will be all. And no one is truely okay with that.

God doesn't also have to be Christianity god, it could be whatever you believe, as long as you do believe. That is what I am saying, and if you want to degrade my character because of my beliefs, go ahead, I will still believe in them.

can you prove that?
I am perfectly fine believing that my body will return to the earth so that other organisms may use it to survive themselves. i actually feel a bit proud that i am part of such a system that can constantly replenish itself.

It's great to be agnostic, isn't it? I know.

Obviously not, but it is my firm belief that it is true.

lol...now i figured it out. what's not important is jesus walking on water or God banishing Adam and Eve...what's more important is the spirit of God. you know...when people tell you to believe in the Christmas spirit...

Now this is slightly off topic, but i was thinking about the Columbine school shooting, when one of the killers asked his victim whether she believed in God. She said, "There is a God, and you need to follow His path." He said, "There is no God" and pulled the trigger.
I always think of that when we get into those God conversations, and it always makes me want to cry...and sometimes i do.

I want God to exist because I hate believing that after we die, we'll just disappear forever, but the logical/scientific part of me knows that God doesn't exist...

IluvA, i remember that. quite chilling.

i also remember 9/11, when 19 hijackers in their last words declared that they would be martyrs against the "infidels" and be glorified in the eyes of Allah

that also made me very despondent about the state of the world.
you see, there are extremists on both sides, willing to take advantage of their religious/nonreligious beliefs to expedite their own agendas.

One of my biggest pet peaves is the general argument that God can't be disproved. For a more eloquent statement of this argument, research Russel's teapot, but here's my version:

I contend that the world was created by an all knowing, all powerful cucumber- seven point four minutes ago. It created us with memories, friends, computers, false scientific evidence, etc. Disprove it!

It can't be done, and no more can God be disproved. And then there's the obnoxious sayings like "Could an all powerful being create an object so heavy that the being could not move it?". But those don't really prove anything, they just make me mad

Anyone on this board with a belief in God:

I enjoy discussing this alot. Please AIM me at DMRenrel, email me at DMLerner@gmail.com, or google talk me [not nearly as catchy] at DMLerner

I would say I'm agnostic; the main reason is that, to me at least, religions are just organizations trying to exert control of people by making them conform to their beliefs. However, I don't have an answer for how the world and universe were created, there had to be something that began it all. So due to that, I do believe in God. I don't have much respect for all the conformity that surrounds most major religions like christianity or islam ("If you aren't ______ I feel sorry for you because you don't follow the true path", or some crap like that).

For all of the atheists out there it's ridiculous to say that there is no GOD and although I am not sure he exists, you cannot neglect the chance that there may be GOD, because there is always a very minimal chance of anything happening. I recommend reading Hyperspace and Case for Faith. But in the end it's what you believe to be true, but if i had more time to elaborate by what i mean i would; I plan to some day write a book about the possible existence or non-existence. Just for my own gratification.

We can say whatever we want. If we think there is no god, then we can say it.

For all you people that don't believe in God, well you have to first see god. God came and told me that Jesus is Lord, and I should go out and kill homosexuals.

j/k religion is hypocrisy.

Angels and Demons

Well, then for all of you theists, it's ridiculous for you to say there is a god. Oh and no book will ever make me believe in god.

May I know why exactly don't you believe in God?

If its because you have never seen him/her, then that's ridiculous because there are many thing we can't see but they exist. Even in scientific terms and stuff, you can't really see the magnetic field or anything but it exists.

By the way, don't forget we are only humans. We only have the capacity to understand what we can sense through our senses. Just becasue we don't understand something does not mean that it does not exist because just think of other animals. They don't understand a lot of thing that we do. Every organism has its own intellectual limits.

Also, whoever said how can a man create this stuff..remember God is not a man. According to me, we just like to think of him as a man to be able to connect to him. God is a like a force..unexplicable.

How can anyone believe in god after reading the bible. The stories in that book of lies are beyond ridiculous.

^^^that's kind of invalid. Because you should apply that to the Koran, Torrah, etc., as well.

I am agnostic, because like somebody else said before, I don't like the fact that all religions seem to be at odds with each other. There are hundreds of religions, and it's impossible to determine which is the "right" religion, though all make that claim.

Every religion is bullcrap. It's just a ploy to keep people in line and waste money and time on organizations. There is no proof of a god. There is no way you can tell us that there is a god or isn't a god, it's our own choice to believe whatever we want.
