hey guys
ill be having the french baccalaureate in june so ill be going directly in U1 in management skiping the freshmen year.

well i have a few questions

_is frenchmen year that important that i would have to study during the summer to catch up?
_how are do the ones going directly into u1 usually melt with the other students that have already spent a year together?
_if im not mistaking students from the quebec system end highschool at 18. so that would mean people going directly into u1 have a year less. is it usually a problem ?

well i hope you guys could take some time to read this and answer.

I entered directly into U1. There will be plenty of people doing it - everyone from Quebec (about half of McGill’s students) goes through CEGEP before University and enter as U1s.

You do NOT need to study over the summer. That would suck and be a big waste of time! Being U1 doesn’t necessarily mean you’re shoved into higher level classes without the necessary background - if you do have the prereqs through equivalencies from your french baccalaureate then you will be ready for those higher-level classes. Freshman year isn’t that important, it’s basically a time to explore and figure out what you want to major in.

You will ‘melt’ fine. You’ll be staying in residence (I’m assuming) with U0s, it won’t affect the way you make friends or anything. You may be taking different classes, but think of it as an opportunity to meet even more people!

Having a year less isn’t a problem. Like I said, half of McGill’s students are from Quebec and only spend 3 years. It’s actually kind of a blessing: you only have to pay for three years instead of four.

Hope this helps.

thank you for your answer :))

btw how old are the students from when they finish cegep ?

Quebec high schools go up until grade 11 and CEGEP is two years long so most students are 19.
