Hi,
I would like to know if going for another Bachelor’s degree is worth it.
Here is the situation: I am almost done with an online Bachelor’s in Information Systems (the journey was tough and rough but worthed.)
Now, Uber offered my husband full-tuition in ASU online that he doesn’t want and offered it to me, and when I checked their website and found they have Business Data Analytics.
Do you think it’s worth going through? Any thoughts? Opinions?
Are you sure your husband’s company is willing to pay for a spouse’s degree? In my experience, it’s only been for the employee.
From which online college did you obtain your present degree? If it is a for-profit one (like Phoenix), I would recommend the ASU one. If it is an online degree from a real non-profit college (like ASU) you likely will not benefit much from it.
Yes, I just called ASU and they confirmed that I can benefit from his tuition as a spouse if he doesn’t want it.
My present degree if from CUNY School of Professional Studies, it’s a State University located in NYC, so public uni.
Both your first degree and your possible second degree look like business-based fields. So the second one may not add too much, although if it accepts course work from your first one to cover some requirements, it may not take that long either.
Whether it is worth doing depends in part whether employers in your area are much more willing to hire those with “business data analytics” versus “information systems” degrees. Have you gotten any indications that this is the case?
Good point. I know that data analytics is more inclined toward statistics and data mining via different tools, while information systems major is more generalized and include everything from network and systems security, BPM, database management, SCOM, etc. … I was actually thinking about a data science master’s but I will have to pay it out of pocket, thus being tempted for another paid for BS …
Worth it how? Gaining more knowledge? Gaining prestige?
What did your internship offer as far as future career prospects?
How is a data science masters degree going to change anything? It won’t be that much more in pay.
I think it’s worth it if 1) you can take new or more advanced classes in your field and/or 2) you can add a minor for sought-after skills your core major courses.
Another option is that if specific courses are of interest to you or potential employers, take just those without worrying about the rest of the second bachelor’s degree requirements.
