Going on a visit, anything I should know/look out for?

Hi!

I’ll be visiting BU in August, I plan to go to an admin info session, a tour of the school, and I plan to visit the COM school buildings. I was just wondering,

1) are there any special, cool, BU stuff I should look out for, and ask about?
2) Is there anything I should do that can help me get into the school during application season?
3) Is there anything else I should know?

Thank you!!

Hi BlackRose101! I hope you enjoy visiting BU. I’m going into my junior year and love it here. I’d say that you shouldn’t worry about impressing anyone or anything. In such a huge school like BU, they don’t do interviews and nothing during your visit (barring some crazy bad outburst) would reflect too much on whether you get accepted or not. Making your application stand out will be key for that part. In general, take advantage of asking students any questions you have. You’ll get the chance before your tour in the admissions building and during your tour to ask any student life questions you have. Everyone who is a tour guide or works in admissions really likes answering those questions, so take advantage of that opportunity. Otherwise, just try to put yourself in the culture a bit. It’s harder to do this in the summer, but you can wander around campus and see if you can envision yourself living there!

Thanks Lauren591 ^_^

Review the reports on Campus Vibe - interesting to see what other people saw, especially if it is a first visit to a college campus, or one of the first. Sit a while in a central location and observe students. Ask the tour guide where else he/she applied, and why he decided on BU. If you have a bit of privacy, ask him what the down sides of the school are. Ask the students in the cafeteria. Look for subtle signs.

Thanks shoot4themoon!!!
I’ll make sure to do that ^_^

Our daughter had two other measuring sticks…the t shirt test (how many people wear clothes with the name of the school) and the window test (at several schools, random students either yelled out the window “come to xyZ” or otherwise commented spontaneously). Also, who is in the common areas and what are they doing?

That’s a great idea!

Thank you ^_^

I’ve visited other schools before, and i’ve had a student or two yell random things to me about where to hang out. I guess the words not in college are stamped on my forehead lolz.
But i’ll take into consideration all that you have said.

Thanks :)
