Going public more and more..

Few schools accept transfer credit for their majors, even if the student is leaving a presitigious private. Schools want to train their own majors.

This is not usually an issue for community college students because most don’t offer the kind of upper level courses needed to fulfill major requiremets. Most offer basic distribution courses, the required courses. The situation also changes for many institutions if the student actually earns the AA degree. In NYS if the degree is earned all 66 credits transfer to the state schools.

northeatmom- she has been accepted at UNC- Greensboro, has applied to Asheville and is thinking about Wilmington. I thought she should try NC State but she said it was to big. She has a very varied list. No real reaches all matches of different sizes- mostly in or near cities. She changes her mind about the size/location of schools so that was the approach we took. She will apply to 1 or 2 small privates 1 instate public (also already accepted) and 4-5 oos public.

tom, Congratulations on your D’s early acceptances. Has she already looked at Greensboro, and Ashville? My relatives in NC say that Ashville is really nice.

We visited all the schools except the NC campuses. We plan to visit in Feb or March 08.

If your D does apply to UNC-W, don’t miss the School of Education. It is one of the nicest buildings that we have seen.
