Going South?

I'm from the midwest (near Chicago). How do students at LSU treat people from the north? Still any tension?

Southerns are some of the most friendly, welcoming, hospitable people you will ever meet.
Arrive in Baton Rouge with an open mind, a willingness to try new things (food especially), a bit of patience, and a big sense of humor - and you will be just fine!

As someone from Chicago who came to LSU, I can give you a real answer. The truth is nobody cares that you’re from the north. No one treats you the better or worse. I found the whole Southern hospitality thing to be a load of crap. No one goes out of their way to welcome you because you’re from the north. As for tension, nobody is going to treat you any worse because you’re from the north, like I said, it’s meaningless.

You’re right - no one is going to jump up and down to welcome you just because you’re “from the north” or from anywhere else.

A lot of it has to do with attitude. If you (from the north, the south, the east, the west or from outer space) are open and friendly, people will be open and friendly right back at you.
