im pretty messed up by this admissions process ngl… my stats are pretty good but im an international who needs some financial aid. (not much but still some…) so at schools that provided aid for internationals I did apply and i hate to think that is what determined some decisions…
I had a HUGE PolSci spike and iw ould say my “personal” qualities (Essays, LOR’s+Interviews for schools that did interview) were certainly the strongest parts of my application so im just very
I have been rejected from BC, BU, Northwestern, UVA
Waitlisted at UMiami, Northeastern, GW
Accepted: University of Arizona with a very large scholarship
I have Duke, Stanford, NYU and some ivies left. (Also Ohio State but they cancelled my application because they didnt receive my exam certificates “officially”… i dont even want to get into thAT whole situation…)
I just dont really have much hope, Arizona seems pretty cool but academically I really thought I could do a lot better.
Have you got a response from Cornell?
I am sure I did not posted my question on this thread. I posted it on the Reject Train Going Full Speed thread.
I am baffled that it showed up here,
^ You can’t hijack someone else’s thread. That is probably why you were moved.
There really is no “safety school” for internationals seeking financial aid. Arizona’s offer is very generous. Congratulations!
@collegebritgirl8 I am sorry for your disappointment. But chin up. Don’t feel persecuted or alone.
Your list of schools and results would be a very similar profile for thousands and thousands of top flight American students too. BC and BU had over 100,000 applications this year and 8 out 10 students were rejected too. Northwestern and UVA oos state is like applying to an Ivy or Stanford. As a international it is nearer zero chance than 10 percent.
WL for northeastern Miami and GW waitlists are pretty spectacular results for an international student. And with the right follow up, I would not be at all surprised with a good result somewhere. You must be an amazing candidate to be even considered at schools at this level of selectivity!
And finally ASU with money for an international student is like hitting the UK lottery. It’s a fun and diverse school. In one of the most beautiful locations for sunshine and outdoor activities in USA. You’re from England. How would you like to stay goodbye to foggy and rainy days for a few years. They have great school spirit and nice facilities. And as a major state uni you have access to as much academic workload and research as your personal grit and determination allows for. If you want a very super academic experience it’s available to those who seek it.
Congrats on the great option and follow up on the waitlists too. Noting to lose.
And good luck with the upcoming decisions.
Cheers!
That was a really sweet message that I really needed, I went through this process completely alone so this was super uplifting! I like to think wherever I end up going i can be happy as long as I make the most out of every opportunity, so thank you so much for that reply honestly, you reminded me that with some determination, any college/university experience can be extraordinary! I will follow up on those waitlists, no harm in trying! All the best to you and thank you once again.
@Groundwork2022
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. All the best x
There’s a way to approach waitlists. And a CC friend of mine @BCBoundMaybe did it at BC last year, against all odds. They take like no one off the waitlist. And he did it in the very last day allowed in June! Dm him. He’s an actual current freshman (first year in USA). He can really help you.
I did a year abroad at uni in Nottingham back in the day. Loved it but if i could use a time machine you would see me at asu or your Wl schools in heartbeat. Mostly asu for the sun and lifestyle. Can’t be in a library 24/7
If you go back to Uk after graduation asu will still have that mystique as all of the other schools on your list. It will be interesting and conversation starter for sure. If you are grad school bound or med school. You can get into any school in the world from there if execute the right game plan!
@privatebanker Uni of Nottingham is great! Im glad you had a good time there, i hope you didn’t get too bummed down by the weather. You’re right, Arizona would be very enjoyable and hopefully I can keep my academics up there, theres always transferring and grad school!
As soon as I find out what happens next week I will make my decision!
And thanks, i will deinitelyl message him about what to do with waitlists, thank you so much!
The weather was fine at the Trent wine bar and forest football games
My next door neighbor is British and went to college in Arizona! She totally loved it. And now she lives in California. Once she got a taste of proper sunshine she never went back!!
I did a postgrad degree in the uk. I absolutely loved my university but my god the weather. Winter was so dreadfully depressing, pitch dark by 4pm and everything just felt wet all the time even when it wasn’t raining. (Being told it was one of the lowest rainfall places in the UK didn’t mean much to someone from a sunny Southern Hemisphere country, haha).
