So, I will try not to say too much for you guys to reads or whoever reads my life problems lol. So i know the people who would say go to a community college in your state. I have residency in two states Florida, and Illinois. I don’t want to live in neither because some stuff happened basically, went through hell of a lot of things in the past two years to the point I need a fresh start. My mother said she would help me on this decision( She doesn’t even want me back home in Florida like I said a lot has happened), I plan to move to California or New York but leaning towards California. My plan is to get an associates in business administration after doing two years then transfer to pursue Fashion design. BLAH BLAH. So basically . I know about living situation, me and my mom plan on visiting the cc I choose as well. What I am asking is, What are certain steps I should take into going into a out of state cc? Like I said going to one in one of my states is an option really. I just want to start somewhere new and fresh because where I’m at i’m miserable.

Policies regarding OOS students at community colleges vary from school to school, so I would start with contacting the schools you’re looking into. Keep in mind you won’t be eligible for financial aid there, so if you need money start applying for private scholarships.
FL & IL are both pretty big states. I have a hard time believing that you couldn’t move to a different area in these states and not have the opportunity for a fresh start
Look at areas farther away but still instate.
Why cc - what are your GPA and test scores ?
What’s your mother’s budget for college ?
If you find a job and work for a year without taking more than one class per semester in New York State you’ll be considered a resident and I’ll be able to get instate tuition at cc 's and suny 's. NOT an option in California.
If budget is not an issue, look into TC3 a community college with nice dorms and an honors program in NYS .

Well Illinois besides Chicago where I live right now is straight farms, the deeper you go the more racist it gets. And Florida I could but I actually want to start in a new state. I will look into some New York schools it seems fun to move there. And I’m doing cc because it’s cheaper for one and I want to get my grades up a little bit.
The arrogance of city folk never ceases to amaze me… Believe it or not, outside of Chicago, higher education is also conducted at a college, not at a farm where the simple, racist country bumpkins pick their teeth with straw and entertain themselves by shooting at rusty beercans.
To put it bluntly, it is imprudent to dismiss out of hand the affordable quality institutions in your 2 home states, in favor of an OOS community college, simply “to start somewhere new and fresh because where I’m at i’m miserable.”
Your options as a transfer student will be vastly narrowed in terms of financial aid and merit money opportunities, as compared to what you might have as an entering freshman.
But I am mainly focused on California, better weather than Florida and Illinois combined. I’ve been looking at this school Santa Barbara City College. And i read about somewhere that New York is really pricey.
Dude, there’s an obvious reason why there aren’t hordes of OOS students from the other side of the country jostling to go to community college in CA: the value proposition doesn’t make sense. I get the impression that in your search for a college, you are seeking a vacation not an education.
California will be VERY expensive. You will be charged OOS fees no matter where you go. Your transcript tells the state that you are coming for educational purposes which means full OOS tuition, for at least, your two years minimum. You need to be aware of really high rents and fees.
California cc 's from oos make no sense. It’ll cost you about 30-35k per year and you will NEVER be considered a resident. I doubt your parents will pay for sbcc or smcc oos unless they make half a million a year and have money to burn.
New York State is not fun - it’s like Illinois, or Florida. Large State, large cities, countryside. Anyway if your goal is to have fun, I’d suggest deferring college; think about registering with a volunteer group, CityYear is the most famous one but it’s very selective. Work as a young adult for a year to set your priorities straight. If you work for a year in New York State you’ll be considered a resident at least and cc’s will be affordable. What do you want to major in?
