Hey! I am going to visit DC tomorrow to see Georgetown. I am spending the night so I will have a lot of time there. I have never been to DC so I really want to see the White House and all of the memorials and stuff. Are they close to Georgetown?

Also, any great food recommendations would be awesome!! Thanks!

Food: Grab a sandwich at either Wisey's, which is right across from the Walsh building just off campus, or Booeymonger's, which is a few blocks further down. Both are popular student haunts.

For higher class or dinner, I recommend J. Paul's on M Street or Bangkok Bistro, which is on Prospect, right off of Wisconsin. Papparatzi, Zed's Ethiopian, and The Guards are also solid Georgetown-area offerings.

A little bit further away near the Adam's Morgan metro is the Afghan Grill on Calvert street. It's cheap, delicious, and not widely known.

The memorials are mostly on or around the National Mall, which isn't really that close to Georgetown. However, DC is really quite small and we're just dealing with part of the NW quadrant, so it's very possible to walk there from Georgetown, going down M St. to Foggy Bottom and the GWU campus and then heading south. Have a good map of DC at hand.

What airline did you take?

I live in NYC so DC was pretty close so we drove.

It was really nice. I recommend staying in the hotel on campus. It is a Marriott. It was easy to find where we had to go on campus.

The best airline to take is Southwest. They fly to BWI, in Baltimore, and its about a half hour drive from there. They have the best prices, you can get one way for $29, or round trip for about $50, when they have their special deals, which they have often.

yeah i heard of that too, my friend from UM does it all teh time. but how can you get from bwi to gtown? just a cab or is there a better/easier way?

There are two "afordable" options:
1:Take Amtrak from BWI to Union Station in DC (about $20), then take the metro to Rosslyn and walk, or wherever your hotel is.
2: You can take the Super Shuttle, whcih will drop you off at Georgetown. It'll come to about $40-50. At the airport there are signs to the super shuttle, or you can just ask for it. It also goes by the name of Blue van. You can look up the rates online.
The very expebsive option is to take a cab, which could easily be about 100 dollars, it's pretty far away. I'd recomment the super shuttle, this will get you to Gtown in about 45 min. The train might ake up to 2 hrs by the time you do everything.

Why not take the US Airways Shuttle from La Guardia? That's what I did when I visited it... The people there are really nice too. My dad's a Chairman's Perferred (100 segements a year), so we got upgraded to First Class. Not worth it for a 30 minute flight though...
