Going to SMU not living on campus

ok so I'm from Plano which is about 30 min from SMU so my parents are making me live with them...which blows.
I'm wondering how hard will it be to make friends since I'm not gonna be on campus all the time.
Will it be hard for me to be active on campus?
I'm really upset but I'm trying to find some upside to this...am I really at a disadvantage?

runninglover, of course you are at a disadvantage, but the dorms are very expensive at SMU, so it’s understandable being so close that your parents want to save where they can.
Just because you’re commuting doesn’t mean that you can’t meet people, go to parties or get involved. In fact, maybe this will make you look harder at some of the groups that are available to join. I hear intermural sports are big there. Join a team, find people to study with, work out at the rec center…
You will be fine.
Maybe this summer you can find a job and start putting some money away for an apartment next year!

runninglover… You are still going to be an SMU student have classes with SMU students and have access to all that SMU has to offer. I am a current student at SMU and know people that commute. As long as you are out going and try to meet new people and get involved it really wont matter. You just have to make the best of the situation. And once you start meeting people im sure you could stay on campus a night or two and just stay with them. It will work out fine just be positive about it and as outgoing as possible.
