I just got accepted to UCLA and I was wondering if UCLA does a good job in placing its students to large firms after graduation?
Is majoring in BizEcon enough to get a good job after undergrad, or must I get an MBA?
- I am mostly interested in having a career in consulting or investment management
UCLA doesn’t do any “placing”, you do. It sounds like you’re looking for a passive experience, show up at a college and go along for the ride, on the far end you’re handed a great job. Not going to work that way, at least not at a large public. You want to be a viable candidate for a job then you need to get good grades, get to know some profs for letters of rec, take part in internships. UCLA isn’t going to “do” any of this for you, it happens by dint of your effort.
As for whether or not to get an MBA after undergrad, someone " interested in having a career in consulting or investment management " ought to be able to research the pathway to getting a MBA from a good school and, more specifically, whether it is common at said schools to get an MBA right after undergrad.
the short answer is yes, lol
@mikemac obviously I’m going to work hard and not half-ass school. But compared to top undergrad business schools, does going to UCLA give me a disadvantage as there is no business school, but just BizEcon, etc.
Based on my knowledge, UCLA is not a target school for investment banking (this is pretty much the only industry I know about in business . Especially for investment banking, most target schools are located on the east coast. I believe the only 2 really good targets in the west are Stanford and Haas. That being said, UCLA is a great school, and if you work hard, you’ll easily find jobs
