I got accepted into University of San Francisco and am considering going there. However, after reading some things online USF doesn’t seem to get the best rep (1). Living in SF would open me up to more CS related opportunities, but is their CS program strong? And will future potential employers see a USF CS degree highly or not so highly?
Also what are some of your personal opinions on the school, and do you know of any pros and cons of it?
Thanks!
I can’t address your concerns about CS specifically, but I can about USF in general. Regarding USF being “mad easy” and just out to get your money; the acceptance rate is 60%, average enrolled freshman GPA 3.6…it’s not Stanford but obviously they don’t admit everyone who applies, either. Where are you planning to live after college? The school may not be as well known on the East Coast but certainly it is in Silicon Valley, for example. They have a strong career placement and internship department, so that should be very helpful to you.
As far as pros and cons - depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a big university, football, lots of school spirit, strong Greek system, college town? This is not that place. If you want a lot of diversity in the study body, an urban school in a great location, a focus on social justice, then USF might be the place for you.
Great info, I’m planning on living on the west coast but I’m afraid to goto school somewhere where they don’t excel in my major. Very helpful comment, thank you.
