What do you guys know about San Francisco schools.

UCSF and University of San Francisco.

i'm trying to get some info but nothing seems really reliable.

Im just lookin for some safeties and it seems like San Fran would not be too shabby.

UCSF is graduate level only. It specializes in Health Sciences, with a Dental School, Medical school, and Pharmacy School. It also has a hospital, grad level Nursing and biomedical /biochemical research.

My sister attended there for her medical degree. It is located near Haight Ashbury, south of Golden Gate Park.

USF - almost anyone with a pulse can get in.

UCSF is tops.

USF ... Jesuit school in a nice location in the city
Mills College ... Women's college in Oakland, across the bay and near UCB
UCBerkeley ... speaks for itself
St Mary's in Moraga ... nice Catholic college east of Oakland
Cal State San Francisco in SF

There are others towards the south

Stanford
Santa Clara University . Jesuit also
Cal State San Jose
UC Santa Cruz
Cal State Hayward

ahh thats probably why its hard to find some stuff about undergraduate degrees there.

is USF really that bad? My parents really want me to go out of state for schools (I live in utah) and I would prefer to go cali or atleast stay west coast.

I have ivy caliber stats (34 ACT, 4.0 UW gpa, SBO pres). Im already going to be applying to USC, Stanford, and most likely Pomona & CMC. But i kinda wanna have a school that i can get a lot of scholarship money to go too as a backup just to make sure I can get out of state.

I would totally go for the UC schools but i will get no aid no matter what there so thats not really an option.

Knights must be confusing USF with San Francisco State.
USF is on par with the mid tier UCs. Their students' SAT scores are way better than UC-Riverside and Merced. (And private schools, like USF, are rarely as statistically-driven as publics)

what programs is USF strongest in.

How about you apply to UC Berkeley as well. It's not in SF but it's in the Bay Area.

^

im thinkin about it but just it seems like even if i did get in i couldnt get any aid to go there cause its a public school and i heard the UC schools are really hard on OOS students when it comes to funding.

Consider Washington and Oregon as well.

Lewis and Clark and Reed in Portland

Whitman in Walla Walla, Wash.

etc....

Santa Clara has rep for good merit aid. Occidental, too.

Not to be rude to anyone attending USF, but the person who said anyone with a pulse could get in was being polite. If being around a student body like that is alright with you, then enjoy. I live around the Bay Area, and San Francisco is a great town. However, I myself wouldn't want to live there. Make sure you visit the city before you get your heart set on it.

I'd recommend you check out St. Mary's, UCB, and, for a safety, Mills. I'm looking into Mills right now, and it does seem like a really cool environment. Mills is in Oakland though, but it's pretty close to Berkeley and stuff. I know you can take classes at Berkeley while you attend Mills, too. Oakland wouldn't exactly be a good "college" town, I'd like to add.

Edit: I don't want to make SF sound like a bad place... It's the most beautiful big city I've ever seen. I'm just not really a big city person. :]

USF is a pretty good school - at the very least, the business program is solid. I know a guy who got an MBA from there and is now making quite a bit of money in San Francisco. USF has some pretty solid connections in San Francisco. UCSF is arguably the best grad school in California.

I heard USF is really fun and has lots of good looking woman!

??? what about the guys???

haha probably it is a private rich school.

generally has a very good looking student body

The 75h percentile at the USF class had 1840 SATs. Better than UCM 1740 and UCR 1740. And quite comparable to UCSC 1880, UCD 1910, UCI 1920, UCSB 1930. And better than St. Mary's, San Francisco State and San Jose State.

But, yes, it's largely a pre-professional school.

Santa Clara University and USF are Bay Area rivals ... being the two Jesuit Colleges that have been around since the turn of the last century. Both are regional with SCU catering to Silicon Valley/high tech and USF known for general/business/law in SF. I think they have part time programs for master programs so they also cater to the working professional.

San Francisco State (SFSU) is a commuter school. When my S attended several years ago, there were only two dorms. SFSU is a good safety but apartments are VERY expensive.

UCSF is a very hard to get into program, for nursing, medical school, etc. No slackers allowed.
