Golden Key Honor Society--for real or a rip-off?

My D was invited to join this society in recognition of her standing in the top 15% of the class. The information indicates that there will be a recognition ceremony on November 22 in the Tate Center--and that the cost to join is $80.

If this is a bona fide honor, we would go for it--but if it's just a financial rip-off then we'll skip it.

Does anyone know anything about this group?

Got one too (along with everybody else in Myers!). Not a scam but probably not worth the $80. No real benefits.

If you search around on CC, you’ll see a bunch of threads on it. Consensus seems to be it’s a waste of money.

Yeah skip Golden Key. Blue Key, on the other hand, is competitive and prestigious at UGA. You get free membership and there are actual dinners and alumni networking events. Don’t confuse the two (as I almost did).

I already know that this is an old thread and that I may not get a reply. I have used this post every time my son gets another honor society invitation. Got a new one in the mail today. I doesn’t mention a price for membership and it wasn’t one of the two mentioned. Does anyone know about Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society?

I just recycle them… the students know the “real” societies and are probably recruited via email/ personal contact.

Golden Key is available at most campuses. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth the money. It isn’t a scam, it’s just that it may not pay off. Scrap it.
