My D has been invited to join some organization called Golden Key. They claim it is because she is in the top 15% of students at her school. The catch there is a fee which usually means I tell her to delete the e-mail. Her school sent a follow up e-mail from the Provost's office recommending the join. Is anyone familiar with this organization? Is the school just drumming up some kickbacks or is there any benefits for this. I guess I need to do a google search.

Your daughter is in college, right? Why don’t you ask her? If there are benefits for her at her college, she is likely to know about them, or at least be able to find out. Why are you telling her which e-mails to delete, anyway?

here’s some info…google works wonders you know

Paying a fee doesn’t necessarily mean it’s sketchy. You have to pay a membership fee to join Phi Beta Kappa at many schools.

Did the google search- some good, some bad. Seems the school receives $11 per each kid that joins.
Oh D asked me what I thought I would not have known about the e-mail if she did not bring it up. The issue about deleting e-mails when they ask for money was a lesson she was taught years ago when she first got a computer. The lesson obviously sunk in- she still remembers.
Since she asked my opinion I will tell her to check with her campus chapter to get some feedback.
