Goldwater scholarship - What do you know?

Has anyone heard if the announcements are out yet? We are on spring break, and the mail therefore isn't coming to our universities right now. I would think the decisions are finalized, just seeing what everyone else has heard.

They are not officially out yet. I say "officially" because they sometimes notify universities in advance. Since I am not at a uni, I don't know if any have been notified.

The fastest way to know, unfortunately, is to check the goldwater website. They seem to post the winners there days before the individual winners are officially notified. Strange but true.

Checked the Goldwater website today and noticed minor change in the manner current info is listed. Looks like room was made for the 2008 Press Release. Here's hoping it is posted soon and contains happy news for my S.

Looks like the 2008 application was pulled. Hope the 2008 press release will appear soon!

How is the site different? I wouldn't be good at the game show Concentration , would I? ;)

cur,

upper left, right above 2008 Bulletin of Information is a blank spot. Used to have the application.

History predicts that they will post the results sometime this week.

Good luck to all. May CC parents prevail. :)

Y'all have sharp eyes and good memories. Or else I haven't been checking the site enough. ;)

Wait. Didn't it also have 2006 recipients? I'm seeing things. LOL.

2006 winners? Don't know, but at the rate y'all are checking, that hit counter should really turn...

Has anyone heard anything yet about the scholarship awards? Nothing is on the web site and my son says he hasn't heard anything.

I've heard that the Goldwater committee decided it was too dang difficult to decide between all the fine apps so they made everyone Honorable Mention and just spent the money on prostitutes and hotel trysts. Oh, wait. That's the Governors of New York. My bad.

One of the Rhodes regions had a hard time deciding on finalists this year. Normally, each region has 12 finalist that they interview for 2 scholarships. But one this year invited 14! Imagine being in that region, making it to the home stretch only to see the odds worsen...

So Cur may be on to something? The indecision part, of course.

No Goldwater news yet. It is fairly late for them (last year they announced on March 26th but that was on Monday last year!)

I wouldn't put a lot of energy into guessing why they haven't announced yet. The delay could be significant but probably not. Getting the applications reviewed and decisions made can be like herding cats. And maybe the cats are just harder to herd this year.

I've been checking their site several times a day to see how my students fared. Good luck to you all who have children in the running!

Inthebiz,

so that's why the hit counter is rising so fast. :)

^^^^

Between anxious parents and scholarship advisors, not to mention the nominees themselves, that server might crash by the time they post the awards!!

Thanks for all the information, which has been very helpful. Son has been nominated by his school but is the type that doesn't share much of the details. Good luck to all.

Well, they deserve it for using such vague deadlines; I wish the application deadline were equally vague.

"Please have all application materials in by Early February"

I saw an early draft essay but not much of anything else. The bad part about that is I didn't understand any of the Thi73 cln3 THI ABC's whatever science was involved. I could just as well have been reading Urdu.

Whatever will happen has already happened. And anyway, she knows there is always next year. No biggie. ;)

Not exactly a Goldwater - but I just wanted to share here with my CC friends... DD got awarded a $12,000 travel scholarship to study in Turkey next year, post-grad. No flipping burgers at Sonic for her, at least not for long! (job? careers? who needs jobs! ;)) Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program..... :)

Too cool anxiousmom. Who gives the scholarship?
