Golf teams??

My brother is starting his college search. He is an amazing golfer...are there any colleges that are looking for golfers?

Southern schools obviously will be his best bet.
I worked at a glof club in New York that holds a hige amatuer tournment in the summer and most of the players came from schools in North and South Carolina.

DUke, UNC, Clemson, Costal Carolina, Methodist.

What does he want to major in?

Any school with a golf team is looking for golfers.

Has he been recruited? Does he play in state amatuer tournaments? AJGA tournaments?

What's his handicap?

Arizona State University
Clemson University
Georgia Institute of Technology
Oklahoma State University
Stanford University
University of Arizona
University of Georgia
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Southern California
University of California-Los Angeles
University of Oklahoma
University of Texas-Austin
University of Washington
Wake Forest University

Girls, yes. Boys, no.

Unless he is a +2 handicap, and is nationally ranked.

In the United States, Emory has a great golf program. If he's willing to go abroad and has top stats, then the University of St Andrews (Scotland) may be another option. They even offer scholarships for the most academically competitive Tiger Woods aspirants.

He wants to major in biology to become a vet. He is not nationally ranked but made varsity at his school in 10th grade. I don't know his handicap. Actually Emory has a program that he is interested in, so that could be a great lead. Thanks all!

I would suspect that w/o being nationally ranked, DI schools are not going to be real interested, and he likely would have been contacted already if they were. Golf & tennis recruiting have become so international that only the true superstars in each state will end up at top programs. I would think that Division III programs are a better bet. Here are some DIII schools that combine strong academics & golf programs, just going down the latest top 25 men's golf rankings:
Emory
St. John's (MN)
Rhodes
Skidmore
Gustavus (MN)
Ohio Wesleyan
Illinois Wesleyan
Allegheny
Washington & Lee

Thanks Art! It is not important that he be recruited. It is just that golf and music are his "thing" and there are probably alot of colleges who wouldn't care about golf. His GPA is not great so he'll have to sell himself on something. Thank you for the list...my parents will keep it for reference.
