Okay, so maybe this is a really dumb question, but I'm filling out my college applications and I have a dilemma regarding the name of one of my activities. I do judo, and I attended a national training camp twice. The camp has a really silly-sounding "cutesy" name (to give you an idea, it sounds similar to "The Best Judo Camp in the World"). The name makes it sound like the camp was a joke, especially since it was only three days and it's not selective. However, it really is a very well-respected camp to anyone who is familiar with judo, and it includes classes taught by Olympic medalists and some of the best-known trainers in the world, and I explain this in my activities resume. I don't want to exclude this from my application, because I'm already light on ECs and I think it would enhance my app if adcoms knew what it's about. But the name is almost too childish and ridiculous to put on the application. What should I do?

One suggestion: For the EC of this judo activity, just put the name of the activity, hours, etc., and “see additional info” in the text section. Then in additional info have a bulleted list like this:

Judo Activity (underlined)

9 years of blah, blah judo

Achieved status of blah, blah

Award blah, blah

Attended “silly name” camp in 2009 & 2010 - Instruction from top trainers and past Olympic medalists

If you are light on ECs, not sure you should do an activities resume. I often think a resume is just adding to the pile of paper for the adcoms (which can annoy them). If it is just repeating info you already have in the EC section, then don’t do it. You can use the additional info section to add details (like the example above) if you don’t have space in the ECs portion of the app.

Ok, thank you!
