Good Art Programs

I'm looking for colleges (preferably in the Northeastern US or Eastern Canada) that have a good arts program, but also a nice "vibe" to them, friendly people and a pretty campus, etc.

I'm looking to major in arts of some sort, maybe a combination of animation, screenwriting, illustration and design (costuming, fashion, etc.). I'm undecided as of now, but those are all things I consider careers i'd enjoy, as I have a great passion for drawing, storytelling and design.

I've had a look at Vassar and NYU and liked both as schools but i'm not sure what kind of arts they actually offer their students. I like the idea of going to a well-rounded university, but it has to have a good arts program or I don't think it's worth considering, unless I could go on to get a more comprehensive graduate degree.

I've also looked at art schools such as RISD, MICA, etc.

Who would like to share some good arts colleges? I'm a good student (Straight A's, except a B- in math last year, I think I can manage a B+ or A- with effort this year.), and have good technical drawing/painting skills.

Wash U. is supposed to be a good place to combine art with another major. Look on the art major forum too.

For a combination of commercial and studio art look at Skidmore and Conn College. For good studio departments – strong in painting, sculpture etc., but not focused on design or illustration – look at Williams, Wesleyan, Hamilton, Haverford. Smith if you are female.

All of these have good academics, the last group excellent.

Be sure to submit a portfolio as a supplement to your application.
