I want to major in illustration / printmaking but I am blurred with the idea on which school to put into my list. So far I've got Parsons, MICA and SVA. But don't know which one is the best. Share your ideas and state one school that you think has the best illustration program relatively.

*do not mention RISD, RISD is off my list (:

Do you mean you’re double majoring in printmaking/illustration? I can’t tell.

Anyway, ACCD and Ringling are both great choices for illustration – if you can afford them. Ringling offers very few scholarships and I don’t think any full rides. Art Center has plenty of scholarships.

Honestly I’d just google the other schools you might be interested in and look up their faculty. Then google each teacher in the department you want and see if their work impresses you.

Double majoring could be difficult. My D goes to MCAD in Minneapolis, and is an illustration major. She is interested in doing comics, so she took a couple of comics classes, but could not take all of them for the major, so it was more like a unofficial minor. They also have a print/paper/book making major. She is interested in doing children’s books, so she is trying to get at least one bookmaking class in, but is hard, especially when you have the kids in that major taking the classes too. But there is no restriction on non-majors taking any course.

Have you visited these schools? If it is in your budget, it will really help. Go to portfolio reviews and get a feel from the schools what they thing about your work, how they treat you as a prospective student, etc. Do you want to go to school in Manhattan? Do you know what kind of campus/school setting you want? As we weeded through the prospective Illustration schools for D, we crossed many off the list because of the environment, attitude, difficulty to get home, etc.

I do not really mind about the location of the uni as I am currently living out of US. But I will seek chances to attend the npd at some point. But this would be very difficult to me again in terms of ways to get there.
