Good at Math?

Are any of you good at Math? Really good at school ! It had been and still is your best subject in school.

BUT...

For some reason, you don't or did not get your desired Math SAT score.

My case. =(

A lot of the SAT is interpreting what is being asked. If your really good at math, and do poorly on the math section of the SAT, do the ACT.

Just like in chess, there’s good, kick-butt good, and kick kick-butt good’s butt good.

yeah i had the same problem. i’m a senior who scored a 4 on the ap calc ab test, took calc 2 at a really good private instution over the summer and i’m taking ap stats this year but when i recently took my SAT, i only scored in the 70 percentile (a score somewhere around 650). but when i took my act i got in the 98 percentile (i got a 34 in math). it’s so weird

umm… a 650 should be somewhere in the 80s, percentile-wise.

I’m pretty decent at math,
–>Math Award from middle school graduation (received a standing ovation :D)
–>gr9 math mark: 99
–>gr10 math mark:96
–>gr11 math mark:99
–>gr12 Advanced Functions:100
Calculus:98
IB Math HL predicted score: 7/7
SAT 2 math II: 800
SAT 1 Math: 790 (:frowning: stupid mistake…)
ACT Math: 36/36

Need any help?

I believe it’s just the test pressure. (Stupid Mistakes) I depend on Math being my highest score, to pull in the 750+ to solidify my score.

In the last SAT, my worst subject (CR) was my best, tying my math score. I was pretty happy with the total score, but I just wished I had gotten 20 or 30 points on the math section, which is probably one more question.

SAT math is just a step higher into reasoning using Algebra II and below. I find myself very successful in high school math in courses such as Pre-Calc but they really don’t have a big correlation to doing well in the SAT.

I’m a sophomore in Calc BC and I got a 560–60 points higher than my first attempt. Let’s just say I’m rethinking my career plans.

The thing is that you can just make one little error that makes your score not representative of your true ability. I got an 800 the first time I took it, but the second time it was a 770, because I answered one question wrong.

Duude how do you get 800’s on the SAT general? I am pretty good at math too, but I never got a perfect score on the SAT.

Math has always been my favorite subject just b/c of its simplicity. I took the SAT for the first time and I got a 760 (it could have been a perfect 800 but I misread the number on my calculator for one of the problems and on the other I misread the question). I think the thing that separates the students who get 650-700 on the SAT math from those who get 750+ is that the higher scorers know how to find the quickest method to solving a problem. Many people can solve the math problems on the test, but not many know how to find short cuts allowing for more time to do the hard problems.

Maybe you shouldn’t have skipped ahead of all the easy stuff.

I didn’t skip anything, I took 4 courses of math before Calculus BC. The only thing is that they were standard online courses, so they were unchallenging because I only got through them by virtue of pure intelligence and not by learning anything.

One of my friends is like that too. It is because there are quick ways to solve the problems, but after you have taken High Levels of math; you see each problem as some sort of function or equation and set it up, blah, blah… and waste time.

Anyhow… a quick question.

I got a 690 on the Math section on the SAT. But, I am pretty confident that I will get a 750+ on Math 2, hoping for a 800.

Will that show colleges that I am good at Math and that I just did bad on that one math test.

SAT Reasoning test matters way more than the subject tests…

I got an 800 on the Subject test math level 2,but a 790 on the reasoning test,so I’m kind of worried…my scores aren’t consistent

you seem to be a smart one, what is the “blue book”?
and how did you get such a high score in math?
please tell, I am good in math but from my practice test, not cool.
thx---------before I forget, I new so, hi.

@ oneproudKorean: How is that not consistent duude? An 800 and a 790, wow! I wish I could get scores like that.

I am awesome at math, but I can never seem to get the SAT test questions right.

@ oneproudKorean: How is that not consistent duude? An 800 and a 790, wow! I wish I could get scores like that.

I am awesome at math, but I always seem to make mistakes on the SAT general.

PS. I think the blue book is just the book with all the practice tests that you can get from College Board website; it is blue.

I have a 97 average in precalc and I only scored 640.

… But that’s changing in June.
